Well here's another one on the bench......I think this may be next model I actually finish, oh the horror of it. The hull and chassis is from Gaso.Line with some parts from a Tamiya King Tiger. The turret is in the final stages of being built from scratch with a few bits from the same Tamiya kit.
For anyone wondering about the size of Steve's 1/48 paper E-100, you should first realize that it is certainly as big as the average 1/35 AFV of WW2. This doesn't mean that Steve has "Gone Over to the Dark Side", but just that he has tackled something extraordinary in 1/48.
The basic hull will measure in at about 7" X 3-3/4" and a height of about 3".
Depending on the gun type he chooses, the overall length could jump to 9".
Nicely done and great photo refs ... let's hope more guys will tackle demanding
projects like this.
Please promise me now you are painting that beast as soon as you complete assembly, because if not, send it to me and let me paint it for you!!! (<-- NOT kidding) <img src="/images/wink.gif" height=14 width=14>
Arrrggggghhhhh... That is the kind of things I love...
maybe we can hook-up someday seeing how we live in the same town? We have a local? IPMS group (Salem IPMS thats meets in Dallas), actually most of guys are from Salem and a few come up from down South ie Monmouth, Independence, Corvallis and Albany. Call me if you like 503 931 8098.
It's interesting that one whatif modell of a tank can so influence the modelling world .
You know this tank never exist but after one modeller make a whatif version, we have now a mainstream modell from Trumpeter.
I don't mind 'what-if's' if they are even nominally logical, but when someone builds a flak version of an E100, and then claims it was an actual project.... What next? The anti-submarine paratrooper variant? After all, just because they never got around to actually building the thing, doesn't meant they wouldn't if given half a chance. The von Daniken logic principle strikes again...
Wow, that is one imposing figure of a tank, Steve! I like the tricked-out look of those FAT treads. Ok, enough of the seventies talk...that is a sweet scratchbuild! Those tracks make it look menacing! Keep it up!
Ken
anti-submarine paratrooper variant.....hah, you kill me Tim! What next, the flak cannon infantry backpack!
I would love to meet up with you and the IPMS club , I had no idea that we had a local club.
Thank you for the invitation !
when is a good time to call?
