Sorry Guys

January 12 2009, 5:11 PM

It is just not going to work anymore, the time to do all the casting is just not there. I've been thinking of ways to keep it going and exhausted all possibilities. Never fear though, had a long conversation with Bruce last night and discussed a few new things. I'll still be lurking about and my work will be available in the form of new products from other folks. Yes, I do hope someone picks up the line and can continue on and I'll do my best to help them get started with it.
For Jeff Nerem:
By the way, Jeff, I received the kits and will be sending them back to you shortly, only needed 3 parts out of the M-36. Thanks for the M-10 though but I already have one. I appreciate the thought. I appreciate you sending the kits and many thanks!!! I'll get back with you about the finished copies.

Iron Division......

January 12 2009, 7:32 PM

I had a long talk with Bob Batdorf last night and if he had folded two months ago, I could have bought the entire ID inventory. Hell, I'm selling over $1,000 worth of stuff on EvilBay, but I doubt the money will come in before someone else picks them up. Since Bob and I still want to work together in the future, it would have been nice to keep everything from the ID line together. Currently, my budget will not allow this purchase, and I can't afford another divorce.....sad.gif If no one buys the ID masters in a couple of months, I will have the money. At that point, I can make a final decision. I have always wanted to get involved in the model industry (or the replica fighter industry happy.gif ), so this would not be the most bizarre thing I've done. If the timing works out, and I can use my own models sold on eBay to finance this, I will do it to preserve the ID line intact. Beyond that, I can't say.

Bob did not go into why ID went into the diagonal dimension diver. Basically, his partner provided the start-up money for materials and equipment, so he owns the equipment and possibly the molds too, though Bob is selling them, so perhaps Bob did get them back. At any rate, the partner, having provided the start-up funds, saw it as his right to take out money for his own purposes, and that is what he did, instead of re-investing in the business. As a result, ID now is stalled completely. There is now no money to replace worn out molds or make new molds, or to buy resin to produce either existing kits or new ones. So, Bob has no way to continue, and he has no facilities in which to put the casting equipment anyway. he can make masters, and loves doing that, so he plans to continue, and I am supplying him with research material as needed, plus the usual BS and effluvia to cheer him up.....happy.gif

If it is at all possible, I will try to work out an afterlife for the ID resin line. Selling the line would be the best short-term solution, BUT it HAS to be to an established company, not another garage outfit that might go under, leaving the masters to end up in the trash. We will see what we can do. Neither of us really wants to see ID vanish - it's greatness thrust upon us.....

It'll probably be available by then at that price but it's as low as it will go but we can discuss that off-forum sometime. Yep, looking forward to a very long working relationship with ya!! By the way, an interested party is going for the M-36 conversions as soon as I have the Master ready and that is thanks to that little "tip" you gave me last night, thanks a bunch!

Oops.....

January 12 2009, 11:13 PM

sorry to "lose" the M36, but I can use 1-2 of them, so I'm glad it found a happy home.....happy.gif Yeah, I'll still pester you from time to time, just to see if you're awake.....happy.gif Take care of that new family; that's where the real value is, as you know - wouldn't trade the bride for anything, and the crack about the divorce was a JOKE, people! If I can sell kits soon enough, I can buy the ID masters and molds, and if that happens, we can keep the line more or less intact. Dear God, what next? happy.gif

Good Luck, Bob. If you still have my Bandai M-20, could you return it to me, please??
I've tried your old email and not heard back....maybe it's not in use anymore.
I sure hope something works out....your lineup deserves to be continued!!
Take Care, Dave

Sad news indeed.

January 14 2009, 8:29 AM

Sorry to hear about the demise of Top Gun Bob. From the previous post i can understand why you had to pull the plug.
It`s bad enough when someone's job takes over their home life but this is a hobby for crying out loud, we are supposed to enjoy doing it!
Much as
Top Gun had become a monster but i do hope that someone will save it from the abyss. The Sherman moulds should not be allowed to disappear.

One question though, my apologies if this question has not already been answered on here. Does this mean the end for the Panther conversions?

You have done the right thing Bob and wish i you all the best.
Now get back to enjoying your modelling and your life.

for all your well wishes and don't worry, I don't believe that ID is down yet. One of our fellow Track 48ers has expressed interest in buying the line and I already told him I'll help him any way I can. Let's hope he does it and I'll work with him to make sure that the Panthers, CMP's, Halftracks, M-36 and all that good stuff stays with the line and gets released!!!!!
