Panthers

Will shortly be the proud property of good old Bruce Culver as soon as I find the fenders. What will happen to the A & D Masters will be up to him. By the way Greg, the Huntingtiger will be a reality and you'll get yours and the copy back. Thanks!

ID Panthers......

January 12 2009, 11:25 PM

It is my hope that Bob and I will be able to continue the ID line in some fashion. The first step is to buy the existing masters to keep them intact and together. Bear in mind that, considering its relatively short life, ID's line of kits and conversion/detail parts was fairly comprehensive. It WAS heavy on Shermans, true, but Bob was planning to expand more into the German and British AFV and softskin areas, and there was some super stuff in the pipeline. Some of this may well be available in the future, and tomorrow, I mail to Bob two more reference kits - both with excellent fine detail - to use in developing new kits. My immediate concern is preserving the ID masters and existing usable molds if I can. I'm optimistic, but it isn't done yet. And, it could involve selling the whole kit and kaboodle to a larger resin company with the strength AND stability to remain in business and keep these excellent masters going. Either that, or I'm gonna have to love the smell of resin in the morning.....happy.gif

Thanks guys. I'm willing to help if there's anyway to. But, I have zero resin-making experience. I do have shed table space though, and I may be teachable. The biggest barrier is the cash investment for me right now. My 401k is actually losing more money faster then I can put into it.

Well, I commit to one of each of the Panthers (I have the Tamiya kits ready & waiting)

Why not start a order tally for those of us that haven't placed orders yet, and see which molds are financially sound? Ask on the other sites too. It could be

incentive (or not) to whomever considers this adventure.

I'm guessing you need at least 30 orders at $30 each to break even with each mold. Then a few more for the time and materials, and future projects, etc...

Steve Faxon or Garfield as candidates for the resin business???

Just thinking of these costs really makes me begin to appreciate all that Bob has been through.

The orders were there!

Last I looked, there was around $1,200 in orders still out, mostly for the Panthers. Folks were ordering anywhere from 2 to 7 of the A/D's at a pop! As far as old series orders still out go, a few of them were for $100 to $300 worth. So recouping the financial investment is not hard. A good type of RTV which I primarily used was RTV1000 which was available through Eager Plastics in Chicago. The white resin was SC100 and available from the same place. There is a way to make good molds without degassing them. The only problem is that casting is very tedious work without the aid of pressure or vacuum equipment. Of course, many of you have the ID kits already and they were cast WITHOUT all the expensive equipment. Whomever purchases the line and exhisting molds will get all the "coaching" they need from myself.
