| For those with Tiger references more extensive than mine, is there any evidence that late-prod Tigers of the sPz Abt 510 added the sheet metal rain guard over the mantlet. I know that sPz Abt. 506 and possibly Panzerkampfgruppe Hummel did but I am not sure about 510. |

Hi
Quick check of my refs produce no P.Abt 506 with a rain guard. Doesnot mean they did not but non of my ref did.
Ref checked - Pz colours, H &C Tiger I on Eastern front. Most ( But not all) Concord German book. Osprey, Achtung Pz on Tigers.
Tigers in Combat vol 2 cover this unit but I don't have a copy.

This was my posting. I don't know why it came out as anonymous. Panzers in the gunsights (Concord)p. 25 shows a late-prod Tiger I of the sPzAbt 506 with this sheet metal guard. I have seen another photo, many years ago of a Tiger with this type of rainguard but I can't remember which unit it belonged to. |

Sorry Marlow.
I meant to say PzAbt 510 NOT 506.
So My quick checks produced no PzAbt 510 with rain guards. but that didn't they had none. Quite a few photos show PzABt 510 with lots of infantry aboard which hide the mantlet gun sight area.
No name post happen when you preview your post and then edit it. you have to type your name in again.

Hi, I think you mean s.PzAbt301(Fkl), not Kampfgruppe Hummel. As far as I know Tiger I "201" (the one that knocked out the Pershing) and Tiger I "211" (knocked out by another Pershing later) belonged to s.PzAbt301(Fkl). Both are very well documented with a couple of images showing the sheet metal rain guard over the mantlet. Beside from these 2 I only know of one more Tiger I tank (abandonded near a pole) with such a rain guard. The pic of the latter is in one of the Concord booklets. As far as I'm concerned there's no connection. Haven't seen a Tiger I from s.Pz.Abt506 or 510 with this kind of mod.. Do you have any images? I'm currently building several late Tiger Is from the 506, but I haven't seen such rain guards being used on any of them.
Best
