You might find some of the old Bandai figures on eBay, otherwise I'm afraid it is resin or metal. The price of these reflects the fact that they are essentially hand produced, and sculpted, and moulded, and so not suitable for mass production like injection moulding. But moulds for injection mould cost a small fortune to make, and you have to be sure of selling thousands of sets to be sure of getting you money back! Tamiya are taking a calculated risk with the kits and figures they are doing, but they could afford to bank-roll it until it starts making a profit. I think they are unique in that position.....

PS have a go at converting some of the Tamiya figures to suit your own requirements. Half the battle is knowing what YOU want, rather than waiting for someone else to do it....
