Good Day Gentle Folk:
Firstly, I have been on the telephone to Meeta up in Toronto, and she had good news. The Track48 store's AFV Club 251 kits will shortly be on their way from the distributor in a couple of shipments, the delay caused by the Chinese New Year. Talking to a friend who has a contact at AFV Club, he said that the Chinese New Year celebrations might be the cause of the shipment delays for this kit worldwide.
This same contact also mentioned that the AFV Club Sturmtiger should be going into production once the dust settles from the 251 release, so expect it in the next few of months.
Secondly, a message for those planning on building the AFV Club 251 kit for the Group Build: how many of you would guarantee to use a Photo Etched set if it was available to you? Meeta is working on getting some Hauler sets for the kit to be available in time for the Group Build.
So things are looking up for the February 1st start of the Group Build.
Cheers,
Andrew

I'm having my cataract operation tomorrow morning, so I should be in good shape to build something come February. Jan's PE looks spectacular as usual and should dramatically improve the detailing of the AFV Club kit. It won't be nearly as bad as the 1/700 PE for the ships I'm doing for a club group build.....
from Greatmodels. In person, the kit appears even finer in detail than in pix on the web. You will not be disappointed. It does look like the 1/35 kit scaled down, and the interior detail is almost on a par with the Hobby Boss T-34s. I have no insight at all into AFV Club's future plans, but I will tell you there are parts in this kit that are not used in the ausf C; they are good only or the ausf D. You may contact your bookies and place your wagers..... Given the great similarity between the ausf C and D internally, and the family of ausf D '251s AFV Club does in 1/35, it would be obvious to me that they have the research to do pretty much what they want with this series. A SdKfz 11 3-ton artillery tractor would be possible too (we live in hope). This should be a very enjoyable build and while PE will dress up the kit in some important ways (especially the radio installation), for general building, it isn't that necessary. You can go to town on this and have a lot of fun. There are a lot more parts than in the Tamiya Marder III. It is pretty much all here.
with a new eyeball. It's still distorted (wheels are ovals), but the focus is TACK SHARP! Boy howdy, I can count the hairs in a flea's navel (if someone will pay me actual money to do that). There will be a few weeks for the brain to learn to work with the new lens, but at least I can try to get some modeling glasses made so I can do something besides fondling boxes.....
I didn't pre-order my 251s from Garfield (I'm getting mine through Winston from Wings'n'treads), so I have no idea when I'll actually get them. Regardless, I'm going to use photo-etch on at least one of them .

Even though I have my 251 on order with Meeta, I'm not planning on purchasing any photo-etch for the 251 build, Andrew. The Hauler sets look excellent and I normally would buy them but I wan to go as close to OOB as I can on this one. I already have a set of Aber tool clamps and that might about as far as I go with PE on this one.
