OK I think I'm going to rethink my 251 mission.......I have 9 of these kits in route to me and have already compiled a ton of reference material for the different variants I want to build. A few that I am mulling over would be the -7 Engineer type, -8 Ambulance, Stuka zu fuss (I already had the rockets and boxes ready), -16 flame thrower, -17 2cm flak (have the fold down sides and gun ready to go), -18 command vehicle and I had even started an Ausf D version, etc. Yesterday I stumbled into some information about the 1/35 versions of the SdKfz 251 that AFV has available and it stopped me dead in my tracks, or half tracks if you will. Most of you probably already knew this but I didn't. In 1/35 scale AFV have the Stuka and the -17 on Ausf C vehicles and on the Ausf D they have the -21 Drlling, -22 and the -20. So I see at least a few of my ideas heading for the back burner in anticipation of AFV releasing these in 1/48?

You're missing a couple of AFV club 1/35 kits, they also have a 251/4 C, /21 C and the command version of the /17 C, a /9 D, a /3 D, a /20 D, a /7 D, a /1 D Stuka zu fuss and a /22 D.

time frames

Steve, I too worried about a 48th Churchill and AVRE from AFV, as scale-downs from their 35th kits, but I think their time scales are so long, you and I could release our pet projects 3 or 4 times over before anything appeared from them in plastic. When was the SturmTiger announced? When was the 251 announced?

You will have a ready market for all those projects. You crack on and do them....

not for resin conversions..........

these will strictly be builds for my shelf, not marketing. Just trying to save myself some work! But you are probably correct, it will be a long time before they see the light of day.........

We'll be through our resin conversion program and retired to Costa Rica before AFV Club gets their next 1/48 '251 actually on the market.....happy.gif

Would be interesting!

When I had HQ72 Resins, -7's and -8's sold like Hotcakes in Braille Scale before Dragon's kits came out. Easy conversions to do. Wonder what they'd do in 48th? Simple one-piece molds, no muss, no fuss.
