Just a word of caution if you live in the UK

March 24 2009, 3:08 PM

I have just been to the Post Office to Airmail payment for a M24 to Ken.
As i sent payment in cash, as i usually do with Ken. I thought it would be prudent to get the letter signed for at Ken`s end, as signed for letters rarely go "missing".
It cost me 85p to send it via airmail and a whopping £3.80 to get just a signature at the other end! The lady who served me informed me that this was a standard charge for all overseas signed for items. The domestic service is just under £1.00.

I know that i have called Paypal fit to burn in a previous posting. But at nearly £5.00 to Airmail a letter it`s getting a bit much. With hindsight paying Ken the extra $5.00 (£3.40) to use Painpal would have been a better course of action and the kit would have been on its way to me now.

I don`t know who the biggest bandit is Paypal or the Royal Mail.

I received this kit last night. All I can say is...

March 25 2009, 6:40 PM

... well ... I don't know what to say!

This is art in resin! Ken just gets better and better and...

The thing is so thin he has bulkheads you put inside to stiffen it! The detail is incredible! Stunning. Damn, he's so good.

Consider the bar on resin kits to be now raised as I think this is now the new standard. (Olivier you had best be glad Ken is only one guy! GASO.LINE would be in trouble.)

More than that this one could never be quite this good even in injection molding version of same. I don't think injection molding can reliably make parts this thin. Ken has them beat I think.

It's like if Hauler decided to seriously start making resin 1/48th scale tanks. And then made them of resin so delicately thin you can scarcely believe anyone can make a casting like it. The only caution is it will take a light hand to work with these and really care on sanding as it is not much more thicker resin than .5mm. Like working with resin egg shells. Seriously. You can hold up to light and see the glow. Holy crap!

Run. Do not walk. RUN down to your friendly cashier and cut your check to order this kit. Or pay the paypal ransom but get it on order.

Stop wasting your time reading this forum. Get your rear in gear! RUN!

RUN!!!!!

I want to know more about the tracks. Do they have to be heated and bent around the sprockets and idler wheels or are they in sections?

Tracks are...

...in four lengths. Two per side. Flexible resin. Not sure what Ken uses for this as they are resin but they are flexible to bend almost in half. So you do have to go round the drive sprockets but should not be too challenging. No heating and bending round on these tracks.

BTW these are the proper WWII era "metal" tracks.
