If you haven't seen them...goto Hyperscale, Aeroscale, Cybermodeler....anywhere....Look at the 1/32nd WW1 planes from Wingnuts. OMG, are they stunning. Whoever started this had deep pockets, and has really done them right. I know we both do 1/48th, but OMG, are these beautiful!!!
There....personal message done....carry on!!
Oh yeah, anyone want to see how to do an initial offering...in EVERY respect...check them out.....and if that's not enough...a 1/32nd Gotha is due by Summer!!!!
Quick Edith, the room addition needs to be finished....SOON!!!

Dave, I do not know if there is a direct.....

April 9 2009, 7:28 PM

connection, but apparently they are working with Peter Jackson's WWI aircraft collection in doing the research on this series. They are stunning, and show what can be done in 1/32 scale. It is basically no holds barred modeling by a company devoted to getting it right the first time. The buildups are some of the best WWI airplane models I have ever seen - the LVG is positively unbelievable.....

Yuppers......

April 9 2009, 8:50 PM

Sure is good to see the money allowing the startup to be super!! Almost everyone I have emailed about them...has ordered one!! Tim has a special connection to Bristol, so he's ordered one!!
I don't think I've ever seen better intial offerings.
Did you see the next six...then the Pup and Gotha....simply stunning!! It certainly will get some dollars from me.......
The Jackson connection wasn't real common knowledge, so I let that lie. I'm just glad it wasn't MICHAEL Jackson that was involved.......! sad.gif
Dave
wonder how many will be in Columbus?

Wingnut Wings

April 10 2009, 4:29 PM

Dave and Bruce:

Indeed the people behind Wingnut Wings are Peter Jackson and his company. They are very enthusiastic towards WW1 aircraft, with Mr Jackson having basically his own airfield and 1/1 aircraft collection in the north of the South Island in New Zealand. I have visited this airfield and facility, and it is amazing. There is a full time restoration staff, and they have some very extensive plans to restore or build many different WW1 aircraft. Mr Jackson has for instance purchased a number of the aircraft used in the movie "Blue Max".

If you are interested in the kits, now is the time to buy them. Currently Wingnut Wings is offering free shipping world wide. Can't beat that, and shipping via airmail from NZ isn't cheap. The kits have Cartograph decals etc., and appear to be a first rate production.

As I type this my sister is at the airfield in NZ, at their annual airshow, selling the kits. Wish I could be there as well. She actually works for Wingnut happy.gif This she says is the only time the kits will be available "in public", otherwise you must order them via the web site. It is my understanding that the kits will not be available via regular hobby stores anywhere in the world. Makes sense as the demand probably wouldn't justify setting up such a distribution system. So get them now, with free shipping.

I have been told via a friend that the kits will appear in detail in the upcoming Windsock magazine issue.

Cheers
Andrew

wingnutwings kits

April 10 2009, 4:38 PM

Yes, yes, yes! I just ordered a Brisfit, and I'll certainly be ordering more if this one really is as good as it looks in the pics. And Andrew, you kept that quiet!! I hope they have extraordinary success, they certainly deserve it. Fancy having a patron saint in Mr Jackson; a bit like Pete Waterman the pop impressario having his own model railway company here in the UK.  I've drooled over their kits of Kings and Castles and never quite bit the bullet and bought one, but these WWI kits, well, it's a no-brainer!!

Dave, thanks for the heads-up, quite made my day. And you watch that weather right now.....

Yes, Indeed....

April 10 2009, 5:40 PM

Thanks Tim!! You know the results of today....I and my family are very lucky indeed!! I was, maybe, 3/8ths of a mile from the big one...and, unknown to me, the second was on my right, 1/4 mile away, as I struggled home. No wonder it beat the crap out of my car. Four dead so far, there will be more.......the worst outbreak here in Middle Tennessee...ever. But God watches out for fools...so I guess I made that group!! If you see ANY footage that shows the funnel forming and crossing the Interstate...I AM one of the cars heading the other way...it was that close!!
I think I need to order a kit for mineownself about now!! Hmmmm, Se.5 or LVG....hmmmm.??
You might contact Ray about the you know what from the you know when burning pile.....might be very grateful for that info!! Darn, now he'll find out!! Sorrreeee!! happy.gif

Check this out, yet more amazing Wingnut Wings release info

April 11 2009, 1:25 PM

Talked to my sister last night, she was just cleaning up after the first day of the air show at Omaka, which is near Blenheim, in the North of the South Island, NZ. The sounds of vintage aircraft overhead as we spoke, both WW1 and WW2. She said the kits were selling well. As to price, they appear high, but relative to those of other firms, I feel are very competitively priced, given the scale (1/32nd), the detail (top notch), the quality of the instructions (color, including color photos of real machine guns etc to allow the modeler to superdetail as they wish), and Cartograph decals. Also the relatively limited sales potential of such kits vs. say a Tiger 1 in 35th scale. That said, price is always a personal issue, one man's extremely expensive is another man's bargain.

All this said, they are beautiful kits, check out this link for a beautiful build of one of the new releases, by a guy I believe is from IPMS Wellington. And check out the future releases list at the end!

Not particularly germane...

April 12 2009, 2:36 AM

...but no less so than Fokkers and Camels to TOTS armour...I have read that Mr Jackson is about to release a remake of "The Dam Busters"...and that there's been considerable anguish regarding the name of WC Guy Gibson's Labrador. (Those of you my age will recall the dog's name, I trust.) Problem is, the poor dog was run over just before the raid, and in it's memory Gibson used the name as the code word for successful strikes against the dams. Considering the political climate in the States today, I can't wait to see what the upshot is. wink.gif

historical facts and Hollywood

April 12 2009, 6:18 AM

Considering Hollywoods predeliction for re-writing history to suit its own various ends, I would expect the dog not to get run over at all. More likely take part in th raid, parachute out of the flaming wreck and make a long journey home over the Alps by jumping the barbed wire on a Harley Davidson. With a siamese cat and an elephant. And foiling a dastardly Nazi plot to steal all the gold and paintings, while recovering a U-boat coding machine. In a Wermacht Volkswagen with a mind of its own.

But with Mr Jackson at the helm, I hope things will be a little bit closer to the truth.....

Re: Starring.......

Yeah those models are nice, but at almost $80 way too much for me and will break the bank. Also I'd prefer 1/48 scale anyway.

While Dambuster sounds cool, I wish Peter would go ahead and indulge in his love of WWI and finally deliver. I saw his short movie a while ago about WWI and thought it super. IMHO we need more well done movies for this conflict...

Damon.

I done a naughty thing...

April 12 2009, 12:35 PM

I'm not addicted. I could give up any time I want. It isn't a problem for me. If other people can't handle it, thats their problem. So what if the utilities keep sending red letters. I don't need their electricity anyway. And the kids eat too much already.

OK, OK. I'm an addict. My names Tim. I'm addicted to buying plastic kits. Clapclapclapclapclap. Boo hoo...

I just ordered the Se5a .

They seem very prompt....

April 14 2009, 6:07 AM

That's great Tim!! Everyone I know from here, received a shipping notice within two days, also. That's a VERY good sign for a new endeavour.
Our evil plan has worked....can it be much longer before Garfield's build is on Hyperscale....??
Well, actually, yes, it has a lot of parts!!
I believe the new issue of Wingspan is devoted entirely to these kits and Ray Rimmell's buildups of them!!

My SE5a turned up this morning; holly smoke, Batman! Just awesome! Brisfit still in transit, weird, as it was sent first. But I'm thrilled to bits with this one.
