I picked up a few Hobby Boss T-34s, one a 76 which i may knock out and an 85 angle jointd and they are just awesome!

After watching a couple of Tank Overhaul shows and digging through all my T-34 stash, I came accross my VT-34 conversion kits. Two are in 1/35, Accurate Armour's and Aires and the other is Planet Armor's 1/72.

I just really love this vehicle and thought that the fully interiored Hobby Boss kit would be a great base to make one in 1/48! So I'm using the instructions from all the kits as well as just scaling down all the detail items from the kits with some good ol' scratch- building

Here it is so far.... including a re-sculpt of one of Warriors Russian Winter Pilots into a tanker.

Nicely Done Drew...

That's what 1/48 modeling is all about... grab what is out there and run with it.
We can scratch-build most anything, if we put our mind to it, and don't totally
rely on "after market" stuff to make it happen.

Great Work

April 19 2009, 11:44 AM

Two things:

First, great work on the tank, young man!

Second:

I scored a 1/48th AMT Beech Staggerwing at my local HS the other day....a collection someone was selling.

If you want to seee more Russian "metalwork", only this time on aircraft, checkout "Bell Labs Russian Aircraft".

They added four or five feet to the noses of A 20s and used them, I suppose, as recon or scouting aircraft.

Ya gotta search around the site or use "Babelfish".

The Staggerwng was used by the Navy and Marines in limited quantities. I have pics!

WOW....

Excellent work Drew! That's a real winner there. I like seeing mods where there is more white styrene work than the original kit.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks guys, for the comments...much appreciated! Well i'm not sure if i should move this over to the 'assembly line' or not?!?!?!
Until i figure that out........ are are a few more pics with some new components including the winch's guide pulley set up, re-interpretting the fuel drum holders, a radio antenna, and the elevated rear tool box..etc

Some of the components are loose Because i wanna make sure I can air brush it well when that point comes.
There are still several tools and more details to be created and i can't wait to see if i can pull off ALL the details!!!!!!

more pics as the details come into focus!

May 7 2009, 6:57 PM

Well i got some more details going like; shortened the spade arms (they were a bit of a stretch before!!!) and bolted it up to the spade it self, added the wired headlight, radio antenna, and "hooks' for the tow hooks to the front armor, finished the bigger details to the drivers compartment, and finalized the fuel drum racks in brass (actually pieces of PE sprue). I will photograph some of the components against their 1/35 scale cousins from where I'm getting my "measurements" I'm getting to the point where I have to start constructing the multiple engineering/ recovery tools....I'm a little leery whether I can pull those off SUCCESSFULLY... I'll keep on posting as i go!!!

Here are the new shots....
