After a week in the hospital for a heart surgery, now I have 5 stents in my Coronarian system, I returned building the Gaso.line LVT-2.
I am confused with the camouflage used in the Pacific landings.
Where and When.

Italeri have a 1/35 kit, not the same armament, show below only for discussion:

Italeri also ofer this other 1/35 kit, the LVT-4, with the rear door:

Or should I paint it sea-grey?

Tanks for helping, Hilton.

Is that a re-armed M4A1 in the middle of the picture? It doesn't look like a 75mm gun.

Hi Hilton

There was some debate on ML over this. IIRC early LVT were painted in a US Navy grey colour. just like the photo.

Zaloga's Book Has Color Plates

April 27 2009, 11:23 AM

That Amtrak is looking fantastic Hilton ! As far as colors go, in his "US Amtracks and Amphibians at War 1941-1945" Steve Zaloga includes images of LVT(A)-2's in Ocean Grey (a blue-grey color), Olive Drab and a three tone Olive Drab/Red Brown/Sand chemo with a large, wavy hard edged pattern. The chemo patterns show up in the later landings, but the book lays it all out pretty clearly. The book also shows some great tactical markings. Oh, and some pretty extreem weathering too. An excellent research tool for these vehicles. Can't wait to see what you do next happy.gif

Is the LVT 2 amtrak the same vehicle known as the "Alligator"? Is your model 1/48 scale? Who makes it and what is the approximate cost? I was just looking at pics of the Canadian campaign against the defences on Walcheren in the Breskens pocket and they were travelling through the flooded areas in "Alligators".

An AMTRACK By Any Other Name

April 30 2009, 10:43 AM

Donald Roebling developed a tracked vehicle called the Alligator to traverse the Florida swamp regions that caught the interest of the Marines, being developed into the first Amtrack, the unarmored LVT-1. That name probably stuck for a while. The common American name started as 'Amphatrack' and soon got truncated to 'Amtrack' with the armed versions often being called 'Amtanks.' The British received LVT-2's and later models, and referred to the LVT as Water Buffaloes or just Buffaloes (in the singular, Buffalo), and in Italy Zaloga notes they called them 'Fantails' (that is a great one) after discovering the Germans had figured out what a 'Buffalo' was. The later LVT-3 was sometimes called a 'Bushmaster' (no smirking). I still like Amtrack the best - as a kid all the dad's called them that, and they were the vets.

Hi Konrad.....

Yes, it's interesting that in the later Pacific fighting, the US and Japanese vehicle camouflage schemes were often very similar in the patterns and colors used.
