Is the T48 Group Build a "bust"?

Okay guys, how are those Group Build half tracks going? We have seen a finished Kettenkrad, a couple of Sdkfz. 250's, and a couple of other items under construction such as an Sdkfz. 252, another Kettenkrad and an Sdkfz. 7. Did I miss anything? We haven't seen a single Sdkfz. 251 finished, supposedly our "featured" kit from AFV Club??

Now I must plead "guilty" as the moderator here, as my two AFV Club 251's are stuck half finished, due to pressing family commitments. That said, both are nearly built, but not painted or decalled.

What about the rest of you who were going to participate? Are you working on the projects you committed to, or has life gotten in the way? Those of us who took PE sets from Hauler via Meeta are in my opinion obligated to build their kits with the parts, and provide photos for this site, me included.

Would a one month extension provide any comfort to you? The GB thereby being extended to the end of May? Please post your honest opinions here.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hanomag

April 28 2009, 3:10 AM

Well here in the UK, Hannants have JUST (and I mean a couple of days ago...) received their stock of Hanomags, and my local model shop has still to get theirs!! I know there are other HTs on the market, but I would think that quite a few contenders were hopint to build this kit for the GB, but not being able to buy it throws quite a spanner in that plan! I'd vote for an extension as Andrew suggests. It has been very interesting seeing the one that have been built however.

Sdkfz 251

April 28 2009, 3:39 AM

Hi Andrew , I only received my 251 HT last week due to production delays and supply from AFV Club. I had ordered it when it was announced but the delay has really knocked me out of kilter - hence making the Kettenrad.

I want to do a good job on it but am very reluctant to rush the job - you have seen the mess I got into with that Ketten.

I also have my Firefly on the stove and my annual club show is on the 23/24th of May and I want to have the Firefly for it.

I would appreciate an extension but looking at it 5 weeks would likely not be long enough for me. Thats not to say I wont get it done - just have to make sure I make no mistakes along the way that will delay it.

Best

Paul

None here...

April 28 2009, 4:30 AM

I'm waiting for Nigel to get it in, as I'm boycotting Hannants. So can't join a group build if you have nothing to build...

An extention would be nice, even though I went a different route I have still not finished my Famo although it seems its further on than many

I've hesitated to join because I knew I couldn't finish

April 28 2009, 7:28 AM

I've started a Bandai M3, dimension problems and all, but I can't predict how my progress will go. An extension of a month would give me a slight chance of finishing.

Mine is coming along

April 28 2009, 9:07 AM

I lost focus a little bit and in the meantime I finished F-16N in splinter camo (same scale, wrong subject happy.gif), but my Hanomag is still coming along. I have most of the interior painted and put together and will be closing it up this weekend...

An extension, or...

April 28 2009, 10:58 AM

...

Haven't yet seen a single one in germany. They might become available in reasonable numbers in May.

So my idea would be either an extension of time or ...

... a dedicated Sdkfz 251 Group Build later this year when the AFV kit is available around the world and Tamiyas 251D too !

I found Mardermania extremely interesting because a single kit was the focus of the group. You could see just how different finishing styles were.

I'd wished the allied group build at MM was also more channeled that way and maybe take Tamiyas M4A1 or the Crusader family as a subject.

But thats just my good natured opinion on the subject.

I would be happy to continue with our "Halftrack Build" with the extra month available but I do understand how some of you are upset at the missing Hanomag its a shame more have not been able to join in with the 250's and Kettenkraftrad's although over this extra month I'm sure many more will show, it is after all just a bit of fun!
One thing I remember about the ML group build, Lu was talking about doing the Allied Build for the time being while waiting for the Hanomag from Tamiya sometime in the summer "Hanomag Mania" I believe was the term used.
Maybe we should look into doing a joint thing or something else?

Seems Like a Distribution Nightmare...

April 28 2009, 1:18 PM

Hi All;

I hate to say it, but I have had 4 of the new AFV Club SdKfz.251/C's completed for over a month now. Two were ordered from Meeta, One from Lucky in HK, and One from HLJ in Japan. All arrived in good order and were completed and converted during March/09.
I have never been one to participate in Group Builds, but find it odd to hear of all the "No Shows" that seem to have arisen for Andrew.
As for adding the upcoming Tamiya 251 Ausf D into the mix that just might add to the confusion, once guys start asking specific questions. Touchy point there...

GB

group build

April 28 2009, 2:06 PM

Hi All

I am plugging away on my Sdkfz 252 for the build.
I can build but need to learn how to post photos ( plus had some computer issues - goes in for a service next week).

But as stated the UK has only just received the AFV Club 251's. I plan to pick up mine from Parabellum this Saturday.

When is the 'dead line' anyway. I was looking forward to seeing some in-progress shots. These I like as much as f not more than the finished photos.

As regards the dead line extension - i'm happy with what ever others want.

Regards

Andrew

LOST GROUP

April 28 2009, 3:21 PM

I would agree with Manfred and just shoot for a 251 build later in the year with AFV or Tamiya kits. The 251 build includes a large interior and sounds like it can be a quite involved build. The ML Allied build ends June 30th. So maybe start the group then, and end it Sept 30th or Oct 30th to allow Tamiya to make a showing as well.

My bad.

April 28 2009, 3:24 PM

Andrew,

I received my kit from Meeta over a month ago. Like you I haven't been able to get any modeling done due to increased hours at work on top of regular family needs. I couldn't even manage to break away for a one-day trip to the Seattle Spring show. Honestly, I don't think a one month extension will make any difference in my case.

Someone else in the thread mentioned re-starting it later in the year as a 251-specific build, perhaps after the Tamiya 251 D is released. I like that idea. I still want to participate, I just can't at the moment.

Sorry to have let the GB down.

Voting Extension Here

April 29 2009, 1:46 AM

Although I have a Tamiya '250 on the bench (with both Hauler sets in the mix), the last couple of months have been one thing after another so it is like 20% done, making for no pix possibilities yet - if we can get a little more time I hope to have something to show on The Assembly Line.

Extension

April 30 2009, 5:00 AM

I promised a 251/1 and have since bought a Tamiya 250/3. However I got busy with other thins and have only just got back to my preceding builds (Stug). I realised a few weeks ago that I couldn't make it and have been intending to post an apology. However, with the extension to D-Day, I'd be happy to have a crack at one of them. I'll look over them and see which one appeals.
I'm happy to go with general or specific group build themes so don't let me get in the way of the next one.

Cheers

I'm hanging in there.....

April 30 2009, 6:34 AM

I'm underway with my 250/1 but due to a 3 week vacation in a foreign land and work I am struggling to get anywhere too fast.

It is also compounded by me having too many kits on the go too!

I will get there but it's taking a lot longer than planned, sorry.

M.
