Hi All,

The Hart Ferret kit I ordered from the Netherlands arrived yesterday. It's a nice little (and I mean little!) kit. It should be a pretty simple build.

The kit is the UN version. I'd like to build it as a standard British vehicle as seen in Norhtern Ireland.

Does anyone know of more modern British soldier figures and vehicle markings?

Thanks All.

re 1/48 scale modern figures

May 4 2009, 12:13 AM

Hello,

In regards to the question re Modern British Figures, there's quite a bit of Modern Figures in the 40mm scale (1/48, I believe) at:

http://www.hlbs.co.uk

The figures are lead, though they seem to be very nicely scultped. I've never purchased any, but I've purchased some of their kit's, now out of production. They previously offered a resin 1/48 scale Cadillac Stingray, and several British APCs (Sultan, etc) besides the SAS jeep seen on the site.

Not a criticism or anything, but:

40 mm multiplied by 48 is 1920 mm or 192 cm or about 75.5 inches or 6'3-1/2".

40 mm multiplied by 43 is 1720 mm or 172 cm or about 67.7 inches or, call it, 5'7-3/4".

Judging from the photos of the figures which look a bit "wargamerish," I think they are 1/43 scale instead of 1/48.

FWIW

Being a wargamer, IIRC the HLBS figures were designed to be compatable with 1/48 models.

Besides, simply taking "40mm" and using that for scale purposes isn't always the most accurate way to go, since people are of different heights. Better would be to measure a rifle and determine scale from there...

Damon.

Hi Damon,

I don't disagree with you. Multiplying 40 by 43 or 48 is only one thing to try.

However, more than the size is the fact that the proportions are "gnome-like," with the heads, hands and weapons looking out of proportion (too big).

Of course, this is just from what I can make out from the website photos, so take it for what it is worth.

Just one opinion,
Isamu

Wargames figures

May 4 2009, 11:12 AM

I've yet to see any figures designed specifically for wargames that weren't characatures of the human form, either stunted dwarves or muscle-bound Conan look-alikes. Certainly none in our scale.... Remember they are gaming counters, and need to be sturdy enough for real warfare, not like our pampered display models. And, the bulk of the wargaming customer base has a background based in comic book graphics, where a certain over emphasis is part of the 'style' . I'll not explore this line of arguement any further.......
