The T48 Group Build that came and went

Okay, first things first. My hearty congratulations to the following, for getting their half tracks built, and built within the set time frame:

Jim Spellman, Sdkfz. 7 Bandai

Hilton Oliveira, for managing to get the most work done. He finished his Demag D7 on time, and looking at the Assembly Line forum, noted that he had two other half tracks under way, an Sdkfz. 250 and an Sdkfz 252. I wish him the best for completing the other two and treating us to photos.

Chad Lebo for getting his 250 with 37mm AT done, and being one of the first to finish.

Sean Brzozowski, for being the only one to show us an AFV Club 251, the "featured" model of the group build.

Masanori Sato, for his two beautiful Sdkfz. 250 kits, early on in the GB process.

Calvin Goh, for his interesting 250/10 utilizing lots of packs etc.

And to Luciano Rodriguez, for his pint sized but wonderfully executed Kettenkrad, and his epic tag team job with Paul McMahon!

Then to Allan Simpson, Tony Mollica, and Konrad Schreier for at least attempting the project on time, and we look forward to seeing the end results "shortly" happy.gif

Hopefully I didn't miss anyone, and if I did, speak up!

I too tried, as your Moderator, but failed, to get my two kits done on time. But learned some important lessons. I learned that if you are trying to get one kit done on time, don't try to build two at the same time! Stick to the one, and you might achieve a finish that isn't tardy happy.gif

Secondly, before committing to a project, make sure you don't have a half dozen other projects you have committed to finishing already on your plate. In my case, while attempting to build the two AFV Club 251's, I was already working on four review builds for IPMS USA! I have posted the photos on the Assembly Line: Izusu Fuel Truck, Opel Blitz and Mercedes 4500L etc. At least I can point proudly to those, but I blew our own GB.

Thirdly: Life does get in the way. With two young children heavily involved in music and sports, it is difficult to find time on a regular basis to sit down and model. That said, I believe it was my over-commitment to other projects that doomed my efforts with the 251's, together with the fact that they aren't the easiest kits in the world to build, due to their great detail.

I do intend to finish my efforts in the near future, and will post some progress shots this evening, time permitting. I could have rushed the build, but felt that I would not have been happy with myself for a poorly executed job, and I trust I will be forgiven for taking this road. Next time, and there will be a "next time", I will make sure I am not over-committed.

To all those who completed the job on time, a huge THANK YOU for providing us all with excellent models to look at. And for those like myself who didn't make the deadline, don't give up, and finish the task shortly!

Cheers,
Andrew

It was my pleasure...

June 8 2009, 8:39 PM

...to join the T48 Half-track HB.
I also learned some lessons during these past weeks.
The Demag D7 building was a land mark for me because it was the first model that I started and finished just a few weeks after my coronarian surgery in midle april.
I did the best way I could and I am happy that you liked it.
I stoped the 250 series waiting for some books for better interior detailing and accuracy, those books arrived too late to make possible to finish the 250 on time.
I would like to tank Mr. Bruce Culver and Mr. Masanori Sato for the suport and tips on this matter.
Tanks all of you and we must not forget Mr. Paul McMahon with his Kettenkaftrad, that runned together with Lu's fantastic Ketten.
Best, Hilton.

Doumo Arigatou

Hi gents,

This HT/Group Build gave me a very good opportunity.
20 several years or more ago, I reminded of the passion
that build up German Tanks and vehicles in 1/35th.
And I was able to turn it to 1/48th in this time.

My eyes become more farsighted than those days, and some
manual skillfulness lost it, but the pleasure to build a
model is not change.
The thing to feel happily follows, all of you.

I felt the friendship of a modeler-friend through this GB.
Arigatou friends, Arigatou promoter of HT/GB.

Best regards

Masanori Sato (Toku)

Thank you for running it, Andrew

Despite some of the small issues, overall I have to say that I had fun with the AFV Club kit. I definitively enjoy how it looks standing next to the collection of tanks and I'm definitively looking forward to building another C and at least 2 Ds in the future.

BTW I have to admit that without your gentle reminders, I wouldn't have finished my model on time happy.gif. Thanks. I really appreciate your effort.

hey, it's all good Andrew!

As far as I can tell, it was a complete success Congrats to those who got one complete and for those (like me), who didn't, there will be a time to complete one.
Many thanks to Andrew for getting it going.

GB - certainly worth having :)

June 10 2009, 9:13 AM

Hi Andrew and fellow friends. I would like to apologize for not getting a SdKfz 251 on the table - kit arrival delays( 2 1/2 months before second batch of kits arrived from AFV Club ) and other time constraints scuppered me.

I too learnt that I am a one model at a time modeler and have resolved to stick to that. Once my Firefly is done and dusted I'll have the SdKfz 251 on the top of the list.

Andrew , thanks for running the GB and all the lads who have provided us with some very very nice models to look at and learn from happy.gif

Best regards

Paul

Getting ready for the next group build!

June 10 2009, 12:41 PM

Another THANK YOU! to Andrew for offering to host this group build. I am glad that the build was for any halftrack, since many members did not get the featured AFV kit timely. That is why I built the Bandai prime mover. Hope to post better pics now that I am getting used to the new camera and set up.

So Andrew, what are you planning for our summer group build? Any softskin? or maybe any resin kit? or how about the most inaccurate model kit(for one of our contributors that would most likely be any kit)from your unbuilt stash?

Jim

Bring it on!

June 12 2009, 11:28 AM

I`m guilty also of not finishing my build in time, apologies guys.

I did learn a lesson though, - Never agree to make something for a GB that either not out of the box or has no difinitive research available!

Converting the Gaso.line pak 37 conversion to make it into the lower profile mounting, suitable for a late 251/10 ausf C has been an absolute pig of a job.
Each time i thought that i had the gun cradle looking something like, a photo turns up to prove me wrong. I am now on my 3rd re-build of the cradle and for sanity`s sake this will have to be my final attempt.

Oh well, until the next one........
