Wow! That is super......

How the heck do you access this article and the others on the front cover? There do not seem to be any hot spots to open the whole article. The articles in the gallery (in the left sidebar) can be opened, but not this excellent diorama. It is great anyway. You're right about the figures - some of the best animated poses and details I've seen. This is what the ultimate in 1/48 is all about: great care in detailing the model and equal care in posing and detailing the figures, which is what gives this scene its realistic feel. You cannot tell this is not 1/35.

Hi Bruce,

They're using a lot of Javascript and other nonsense in that website (IMHO as a Javascript hater, of course), so I think you'll have to give them a bit more time to update the entire site.

Its a gallery and thats all...

June 30 2009, 2:08 PM

...the only JavaScript in the pages are stats analysis triggers, the reason you can't link to more information about the diorama is because there isn't any, the site is a gallery of eye-candy with no real content, in itself I suppose thats fine but I can't see contributing mych to the promotion of 1/48th scale as it stands...

Maybe they'll start putting up some feature content at some point in the future, but so far each update has been more of the same, pretty pictures...

Regards.

Les, that's really too bad.....

June 30 2009, 3:48 PM

because the quality of much of the work is superb. The "Bailout" diorama is one of the best things I've seen in a long time, in any scale. They do need to have real explanatory content, like what mods did he do to the kit, and where did he get those figures? The snow work is good too; there are so many areas of modeling in this scene crying for some explanation of how he got his effect, and nada..... Perhaps in a new issue.....

Hi Les,

Actually, the galleries are all Javascript based, if I'm not mistaken. I'm guessing that they haven't updated those, maybe because of the hassle or maybe because the Javascript guy isn't available.

I see what you mean...

...the "lightbox" object being used for display of the gallery images from the thumbnails, my bad for not digging deeper.

All the same, I don't see any useful detail to any of the content, the gallery provides a degree of inspiration to modellers showing what can be achieved in this scale, it's just a real shame the the editorial policy seems to value eye-candy far more than any written content about the models and how the work was achieved, that would be far more useful in encouraging modellers to pick up 1/48th scale armour to a greater degree.

I'm also puzzled by the lack of information or back-up to all of the headline images on the home page... Nothing more to be found on the site at all.

Regards.

Nice diorama, but agreed the site in question is kind of worthless as is. I would love to see it turn into an online magazine with articles and reviews and such. Then again, this site does a fine job of covering that

Its so Cool

That diorama is so cool. I have seen pictures of the whole thing somewhere and you are only seeing about a third of it. I think there are 2 Shermans, an M10 and guys in trenchs (if I recall). This is why I model in 1/48. Epic scenes with a lot of vehichles. This guy is a master. Would really like to know more about those figures.

This is the same guy that did "The Monster Has Landed" with the crashed Thuderbolt blocking the Italian road with 4 shermans on it. The figures in that one are equally impressive, but not as dramatic as the one above.

Since Lu is one of the guys running the site and from the photos of the dios available in the gallery, my guess is that most of the dioramas are part of articles for magazines in one country or another. The above diorama might even be in one of the linked magazines, which really doesn't do us much good since they only show the covers and a couple of pages.

Hello,

Above is the original title for this diorama.

An article about it can be found in Panzer Graph! Issue 3 Winter 2006.
Along with more great photos!

The two Shermans are only one part of the diorama. There is a M10 at the other end and a wreaked Schwmmwagen. The article has lots of tips on making some of the details and how to adjust the suspension. The M10 is featured with a nose down atitude as puts on the breaks after cashing through a wire fence.

Thanks for the additional info. Is there any mention of how he did the figures in that issue?
