Hi everybody,
I just had a quick look on the Tamiya America site and saw that they have a Modern American 4x4 Cargo vehicle coming soon in 1/48. This means that we will have the Hummer in our hands by the holiday season..
And here is a pretty good look at the undercarriage...

from the eTamiya site...
A batch of clear images and some sprue of the 1/35 Tamiya #35267 kit, so let's hope ours comes pretty close to this. However, ours appears to be a cargo carrier - either M998 or M1038, and the 1/35 kit shown here is the M1025 version.

Hey guys; looking closely at the text of the forthcoming release; it looks like we are going to have not one but TWO HUMMERS. Isn't the weapon's carrier already available? This one is the pickup/cargo version. Woopee! Chris Schwach
Chris,
You may be right!
The text says:
"Features the same highly detailed suspension as its 1/35 scale counterpart (Item 35267). "
"Distinctive canvas top easily distinguishes it from other variants."
"Modelers can choose to assemble the model with or without the rear cargo cover. "
"It is possible to assemble the large sized canvas cover flap in a tied up state to allow viewing of the interior."
TWO HUMMERS...Hmmmm...Now that would be GREAT!
Pete
Sorry to dump that 1/35 crap on you, but it was the best I could find to show the "undercarriage" they were commenting on. As for the Cargo version, there seems to be two different ones out there. On the whole reference states the M998/M1038 Cargo/Troop carriers, so I suspect the latter is just an improved version of the former.

However, about now I think we need some comments from someone who knows his Humvees.
Much of the literature and web stuff is VERY dated now, and who knows when Tamiya specked out these kits. However, I too NOW agree that they we are looking at TWO different models.
The canvas top will give us a HMMVV "Tilly" so to speak!
