Ideas for a Staff Car paint scheme...

Hi All;

Well... I finally have a Tamiya #32559 US ARMY 1942 TYPE STAFF CAR on order, and am just wondering what paint scheme choices I might have for it.

Photobucket

Being Canadian my first thought was how to dress it up as a Canuck Staff car, but I feel I will have limited choices there. Then I stumbled across these Caunter Pattern Aussie vehicles and wondered what other possibilities are out there.
Personally, I want Commonwealth or British options, but maybe that is outa the question for this particular type of Staff car.

Maybe I'm stuck with THIS...

I think 1942 car too late for caunter but you could do a renwall ford

OD it is..........

September 8 2009, 2:51 PM

Hi George,

I did a quick search through my library, accept a USAF version that's supposed to be some kind of blue, (said in the text, no color pic) all I can find is OD. Maybe a civil version?
Gloss black with bourgondy fenders? Just kidding.

All the best, Rick

Hey George. I remember thinking the same thing about a year ago and wondering if there were any other possibilities besides just plain OD. I briefly remember seeing a pic of a 42 ford, or some vehicle quite similar from the U.S. in Canadian use and painted OD with some mickey mouse pattern painting on it..I will try and locate that pic. Try any sources you have from BONIFACE AND JEUDY (French guys that do allied armor books) and of course; good old Bart Vanderveen. BTW; If you find any more; please post them here as I am still looking for some good alternatives for the ford as well. I've also been toying with the idea of converting it to a WOODY. That would take some serious surgery but boy would it open up some options! Chris Schwach

It was in a military modelling collectors additon (issue 6) in march this year it had a comprehensive article on the 40, 41, and a build on the 42 ford kit, Canadianising it.
It may be on the website!

Thanks Rick and Chris... found a few more

I managed to track down a 41 Plymouth rear view, and a 1940 Dodge Staff car tonight... for what they are worth. Chris I had forgotten all about my Bart Vanderveen books, but not much there unfortunately.

I found this pic sometime ago!

How about Montys runabout it just seems to need a sun visor and mudguard extentions, it's even LHD!

Wow! Thanks for the African Staff car pics Alan. I wish we could get better close up shots of the mudgard/fender extensions (?) and that sunvisor, that elusive sunvisor! I knew I had seen pics of them on civvy and military staff cars and woodies but I'll be darned I can never ever find a close up! This would be a great alternative to modelling a woody..a desert ford with extended fenders and a visor (and tires to match - whew!) would really be an interesting variation now wouldn't it? I have some Canadian images of that staff car

A local owner has a resotred version in accurae Canadian markings.

Another option if you don't want OD is US Navy blue-grey.

Whats the story of the car in your first pic Allan?

September 9 2009, 5:32 PM

Is it the same type as the Tamiya kit?

I've been tempted to buy one but didn't really want to do a US vehicle, British or Commonwealth markings would suit me a lot better.

Regards.

As far as I know its a standard US type car militarised over here and used as staff cars in late 42.
Not part of the standard Canadian contract C21 type as its not RHD but definately used by commonweath troops, Hauler set HLX48262 gives all the required bits!

I noticed the Hauler bits would do the job...

September 10 2009, 7:52 AM

...the tyres look a bit of work as the ones in the kit are quite different, plain road tyres from the look of it, not an insurmountable problem though.

Thanks for the info.

Regards.
