Excellent and innovative work...

Rewarded with apparently superior results! I like the way you went off the beaten path and succeeded!

Hard to keep everything square isn't it? Maybe the Sherman's shape makes it easier...

Nice stuff Wayne; Love those odd variants. Where did you find a pic of a late large-hatch M4a1 with a 75mm turret that wasn't a DD? That I would love to see. Chris Schwach

late m4a1

October 25 2009, 2:41 AM

hi chris i found the photo on a 6th amoured division site run by mike canaday i think i spelt his name right. But i had a better look at the photo it shows it fitted with acullen device and im now starting to think that i ve got it wrong an i need to ripp the front grauds off as that would then tie it up with a photo of an ex dd in france with all the dd gear off its in steve zolaga's tank battles in france .Photo's of them are few and far between but i think the late m4 a1 hull suits the 75 turret better than the 76 .catch you later wayne

Cool

hi Wayne: Nice to see the work progressing. If I can point something out to you: on both the M4A1 75 and the M4A3, you have protruding wire handles on the engine deck. On the real tanks, these handles dropped down into the panel so as to not be in the way. Only their horizontal portion would sit flush against the panel. Hope this helps.

I have a couple of photos of these late M4A1s.....

The cast-in applique armor was done to reduce the effort to add the applique to cast hulls. APG had a couple of these I saw before I left in the late 1970s. The pix I have are NOT stripped DD tanks, but regular gun tanks, a very interesting minor variation on the M4A1 75mm Sherman.
