my big night out was last night, Friday night, tonight hanging out at home with the little Mrs. who has to get up at Oh dark thirty to go to work and is already off to bed, so I'm dumbing around on the computer for a bit. I wander over to eBay to snoop around. I go to MODEL KITS type in 1/48 to do a search and then go around to ARMOR and LAND......you know the routine, and JEEPERS just how many ejection seats and aircraft do-dads should I have to scroll through in those 2 catagories...for CRYING OUT LOUD IN THE NIGHT.......list them where they belong!!!!!

anyone else have a problem with this? I must really be bored..

Hi Steve

Staying up on a dark and windy Sunday morning here in the UK. I have the same issue with ebay. No moderation or oversight in any form.

My big hate is the bargain priced kits where the postage is the real cost and you're effectively bidding for postage. When my PayPal account got screwed up my interest in ebay waned and down came my blood pressure wink.gif

Yes, you MUST always look at the shipping......

October 25 2009, 12:47 AM

on eBay BEFORE bidding. Even though it is against the rules, it's obvious many sellers are using the shipping costs to make an extra profit. $7.50 kit has $24.00 shipping fee.....sad.gif Be careful out there, people.

eBay

I don't know if this still is relevant, but different country eBays sometimes had different catagories, so the item was correctly listed in eBay.com, but would list somewhere else in eBay.co.uk, or eBay.jp etc, because that particular catagory wasn't recognised by the ebay version you were using. Doh....

Anyway, Caveat Emptore, as those canny Romans used to say. Or was it Caveat Canem?

I agee with you guys. I have bid on items which were low in price but had horrendous shipping prices. Clearly the seller wants a profit no matter what! If they don't get it from sales they try to pad shipping. I have told some to F*** off and they have threatened to go through eBay to give me a hard time but I haven't had any problems, which tells me eBay monitors who their good customers are.
Just wanted to throw that out to you folks who felt ripped off but didn't want to challenge in case it messed up future dealings through eBay .

shipping charges

October 26 2009, 3:21 AM

Check the shipping charge, and if it is silly, don't bid. But message them to say you would have bid had the shipping charges been sensible. But expect a stream of abuse in return!!

Best just don't bid. Usually there will be another one along sometime.... And it is good procatising restraint. Otherwise you end up like me with 6 (SIX!) Chinon 35mm cameras!! How sad is that!

Hey! Them power winders are dangerous.....

October 26 2009, 11:00 AM

Took a motorized camera to Oshkosh one year back in the '80s - shot 1300 slides in a week, on film.....happy.gif Of course, I was buying Ektachrome in 100' rolls and loading my own cassettes. No, power winders are dangerous.

powerwinders

October 26 2009, 11:52 AM

Oh, I have used it Dave! Took a load of pics of the kids at a fairground during the Bristol Habour Festival, with a CE5, and it worked a treat. However, two of the 6 cameras are CP9 AFs and I took one of those on a shopping trip to Bath, and didn't read the manual thoroughly. I now have 6 identical pics of Pultney Bridge, as I had it set to C instead of S. I forgot it had a built-in auto-winder, as well as auto-focus!! And all for £17, including postage; Mad.

Anyway, I'll take it to Bovington shortly. Thought I ought to bring the thread back on topic....

I always scan both the Price and the shipping charges...look downwards, see the folder tab, click on it, it will bring up the Cost.....as to finding what yu want Steve, top left, 1:48 - Search; next window, Bandai or Tamiya or whatever - Search and up it comes....then you can look under the 3 Tabs at the top, Both, Auction or Buy It Now.....you can also look for verlinden...other dealers, makers etc. just refine your search parameters.... now I ain't gonna teach ya'll how to be 1st Class Sniper....I rarely lose, drill 'em right between tha eyes.....

Have fun.... ;-{) moustache is gittin' kinda long....

Perhaps I am the one with a numbed mind...hmmm.
