A friend of mine used to tow with a 2.9 Ranger. He had a 16' open trailer & a '69 Montego with a 460. Towed it about 60 miles one way.

I tow my car on a dolly with a carbed 1984 4cyl ranger, 5-speed, 4.10 gear, 3-core radiator, etc. It's not the fastest, nor the safest way to get there, but I've worn out two sets of trailer tires so far.

I knew a dude who used to pull his old ' 60s Chevelle stock car on a heavy homemade trailer...total weight towed  at least 4500 lbs with a stock 4 banger Chevy Luv of all things. He told me that it was a tad hard on the Luv's clutch getting the rig moving, but he could run 60 mph+ all day long on the freeway.

I have a 2001 Ranger 2WD with a 3.0.I towed my 64 Fairlane on a 2 wheel dolly with it.Getting up to speed and driving down the highway is a breeze, stopping gets very interesting.

2006 4.0 V6 Ranger Extend cab - car weighs 3000 lbs and the trailer about 1800 (guess). I tried to weight the car/trailer unit at the San Antonio race, but it was too wide to fit on the scales. Her trailer is a 16' steel perimeter wooden floor car hauler. The problem is tongue weight - the Ranger pulls and stops the load fine, but you can only put about 400 lbs of tongue weight on the ass end before the truck really starts pointing to the sky. Stupid, because the truck is rated to pull 6000+ lbs. Put 600 lbs on the Class III hitch and it'll look like hell from the side.

The trailer has single axle brakes and we had a digital trailer brake and RV plug added to the Ranger to match the F150. That way either truck can pull either trailer. I need to add a set of load bars to the trailer.
