I know it's not Ford but this thing is pretty cool. He is installing a 517BBC with a 14-71 supercharger and electronic fuel injection in his Datsun 240Z. The motor made about 900 hp@6200rpm on the dyno, on pump gas. This has been his race car for nearly 20 yrs. And yes, it is street legal running a PG with a GearVendor o/d unit.
I second Doug on the 510's. When I was looking for a project car I looked for 510's and BMW 2002's to do a Trans Am U2 type project. All of the 510's had returned to the earth from whence they came it seemed.
When I was a little kid my dad really wanted some sort of sports car, but we didn't really have any money so it never happened. But we drove every used 240Z and 260Z in town during the mid-70s. I'll ALWAYS love those cars for the memories of my Dad carting me all over town just trying to find one he could afford!
Seems like 900hp seems a little weak for a stroker BBC with a 14-71 huffer... must only be running 8-10psi boost, but why the big 14-71 if you're not gonna push a bunch of air through it? I guess me and my 300hp BBF don't really have room to talk, though LOL.
I believe he said the motor is capable of MUCH more, but unfortunately his chassis is not. That is the number they came up with they way they had it tuned. It was still making hp when they stopped. He said if they would have ran it to 7200 rpm instead of stopping at 6200 it would have been close to 1000hp on pump gas. As far as the 14-71 goes, hey if more is better too much is just right!
