Cool man! Get 'em started young. I never rode anything until a bit over a year ago. My friend let me (actually insisted, wouldn't take no for an answer) that I ride his restored/modified '71 CB460 (bored/stroked '69 engine) that he recently finished. Well I putzed around the parking lot a bit to get the hang of it and he was like 'That's all, for for a little spin!'. So I romped on it a bit and I was hooked. My buddy got a quad (Warrior 350) and I rode that a couple times then picked up an old XR200 for myself to ride dirt and still have that. Eventually I got my CB750 so that's pretty much my daily driver now.

I need a better dirt bike though, I've definitely outgrown what the XR200 is capable of. Was considering picking up a '79 Elsinore (CR250) because it seemed cheap at $600 and supposedly runs great needs nothing unless I want to restore it then it'll need cosmetics but didn't look bad from the pictures. Debating whether it's worth it or not...

Boy that picture takes me back Ross.  My best friend had that exact bike when we were kids, right down to the colors.  We rode it all over the foothills!  Gawd I was jealous of that thing . . .

I sure remember the mini-trail 50's, had a blue one. I got my first license in 1972 on a Trail 70.

Great pic Ross..That's exactly like the one I rode as a kid..We also had a Rupp mini bike...I have an old 76-77 XR-75 for my son to learn on but its still a touch too big for him and the fully manual trans takes awhile to get the hang of compared to the semi-auto's.....Mike when my son was younger we used to ride all over the country on this thing!..He hated to stop too.

XR-75 - love it!  You guys are killin me with this trip down memory lane.  Anyone have an early RM-100?  Man I wanted one of those soooo bad when I was a kid, but my parents just wouldn't let me.  Seemed like every other kid in the neighborhood had a bike, though, so we all got to have our fun.  I grew up in a neighborhood with these desert foothills all around it, so most of my childhood was spent doing stupid stuff out there in the sagebrush.  When kids got old enough to start getting bikes it was like the whole world opened up to us.  Here's a shot I just found (love the internet) of one of the trails a couple miles up from the house where I grew up.   Great memories you guys are bringing back!  All from that picture of that little Honda 50 . . .

Don't see too many trumpets anymore. Odd, saw an old beater being driven by an old man today. First one I have seen in several years

There are quite a few brit machines rolling around these parts. Popular among the "trendies" that hang around uptown reading poetry and sipping gallons of coffee in stuffy little shops. Makes getting parts around here rough. Thank Thor for Iowa and ebay.

Anybody tried this place for Triumph parts?

My buddy (who was at Woodward with the Delorean) has got some stuff there for his '70 Bonneville said that they are expensive but they have a good inventory.

My buddy has 4 Triumphs. He's selling a "strike bike" as he calls it (early '70s when they went on strike, sat for a year or some such thing before released to sell). Complete but pretty much disassembled to a frame with engine and wheels. Has all the parts though. Needs to be rewired as the harness is fried. Said he hotwired it and it fired up before he disassembled most of the bike. $800 if anyone is interested.

This is from a guy at the british only forum. I laugh every time I read it.

The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."

Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim "sudden, unexpected darkness"

Lucas--inventor of the first intermittent wiper.

Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.

The three-position Lucas switch--DIM, FLICKER and OFF. The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE.

The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products.

"I've had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced any prob...

If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either.

Did you hear about the Lucas powered torpedo? It sank.

It's not true that Lucas, in 1947, tried to get Parliament to repeal Ohm's Law. They withdrew their efforts when they met too much resistance.

Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck.

Quality Assurance phoned and advised the Engineering guy that they had trouble with his design shorting out. So he made the wires longer.

Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas made the refrigerators, too.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone.
Thomas Edison invented the Light Bulb.
Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit.

Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas equipment: check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk three times sunwise around your car chanting: "Oh mighty Prince of Darkness protect your unworthy servant."

Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random frequency.
