Got a toploader for my '68...

Got a toplaoder from a '65 Galaxie to put in my '68. The '68 has a 460 mounted using modified FE mounts. The toploader is a close ratio small in/out from a 390 car. Any trouble to expect with shifter location or anything? Should I convert to a large input and/or output shaft? Gears all look nice. I'd prefer a wide ratio but from looking in the cover the gears look good so I hate to spend all that money replacing gears that are perfectly good. Anyhow, what do you guys think?

Small in/out

You certainly do not need a big in/out unless you are running slicks, and even then, unless you pay for an aftermarket wide ratio, close ratio boxes suck for a big block, beent here done that in my car

What is the number on the tag of your tranny?

It's an HEH-BL. I paid $325 for the trans including the Galaxie shifter. Hard parts look good from the top cover and the shifter workes 1-4 but no reverse. Spins freely and works in each gear. It needs a rebuild but I thought it wasn't bad for a core. Thoughts?
