How many quaarts of "F" for the Cruise-O?

I was checking some small things today while on my crutches, (severly broken ankle, mentioned it in Ross's thread), and realized I have only 4 quarts of "F" in the tranny.

The dipstick doesn't read, how many do I need minimum at full?

Also, when I last dropped the motor in, after swapping the oil pump, I lost a bit of tranny fluid.

If I fill it up, (I don't kow how auto's work, bear with me), will the TQ pick up the quart or so it needs from the pan?

I'm worried the little bit I saw come out, drained out of the TQ while the tranny was bolted up to the motor and hanging at that tight angle when it was on the lift.

Many thanks as always,
Blair

If the trans is empty and the convertor is empty, usually about 10 quarts.

Best bet is to fill the trans with engine off. Add fluid until it shows about 2" overfull on the stick. Then start the engine and run it through the gears. That should be pretty close. Warm it up and add if necessary.

If you are starting with a "dry" unit, I usually pour in about 6 quarts. Jack the back wheels up. Run it through the gears. Stop the rear wheels with the brakes and put it in Park. Then add as necessary.

Pop in ONE at a time until you see it on the stick, then go accordingly...

Your add to full mark on the Cruise is 1 QT.

Adding one at a time is fine if you're just "topping off" , but if you don't know where you're at maybe better to add with the engine off until you see some on the stick.

Thanks guys.

She was pretty dry before, I know the convertor was empty until I filled it before assembly.

Like I said, I think most of that dribbled out when it was hanging from the lift.

I got 4 solid quarts in it now, I'll pickup some more and do as suggested.

Many thanks
Blair
