390, 4 speed, divorced NP205 (4hi works, no 4low), Dana 44 front, Dana 60 rear locked, 38.5 tires, 3" body lift
Just toying around with the idea in my head at the moment of getting this truck as my winter daily driver. I don't like body lifts so that might go, and then go with a 35" or 36" tire, whatever fits. Fix the transfer case, or replace it (guy selling a divoirced 205 near me that works fine). Basically I'm thinking I don't like small blocks like what's in my current F-250 and I'm planning on converting my F-250 from C6 to ZF5 (a pain, but I've done it before on another F-250). This truck is already a big block, has a manual trans, stronger transfer case and axles, and appears to have no cab rot. What do you guys think it's worth?
I currently have an '86 F-250 extended cab 4x4, 351W, C6, NP208, open Sterling 10.25" rear, open IFS front (Dana 50 I believe), long tube headers, compressor set up for air tools, 1500W power inverter, 1000W amp for rear 6x9 speakers. Cab has typical rot under extended cab portion. Other than that it's a solid truck but paint is thin and surface rust in a couple spots on the hood. No pics because my servers power supply died and haven't bothered to replace it yet. What do you think my truck is worth?

That is a badass truck.
I love the old Ford trucks, see alot of the mid too late 70's in my town.
I'm a complete dipshit noob, but if the body wasn't rotted I'd buy it for sure.
How is the bed?
Didn't know you were in Jersey, doesn't the road salt eat stuff alive up there? That truck looks pretty damn good.
I like a lift and tires like alot of guys do on the 4by's, but I don't like BL's.
The tires are a bit much I think too.
Call me gay, but 35-36" is big enough rubber I think in most cases. That's a big diff to clear in the rear, I guess the 38's help with ground clearance.
I have 33x13.5" LTB's on my CJ, broken both ends axleshafts playing, helps my theorey of less lift and tires can get it done most of the time. Unless you are boggin'.
Like I said above I'm a dipshit noob, but I'd sell my 96' crewcab 4x4, for a somewhat solid 60's 4x4 or another good 70's 4x4.

I'm gonna call and see if I can go look at the truck. He's asking $1700/obo or trade for a newer 4x4 truck. I'm thinking of offering him my F-250. I like having the extended cab but I tend to just toss junk back there anyhow, and have never had more than 3 people in my truck anyway. So what do you guys think my truck is worth?

My '84 F250 2-wheel drive is tons nicer & I can't give it away here Looking into swapping it for an '81 4X4 F150 but I know I'll end up junking it, swaps never seem to work for me.

You don't quit playing because you get old; you get old because you quit playing!
The problems with those models (late 60s early 70s)up here in Canada with our salty roads is they would rot out in the inner fender area at the hood hinges..Actually they just seemed to rust very bad in general.I also never drove one that didn't have a ton of play in the steering box..The older one is cooler no doubt but for a daily driver I would stick with the newer one...I drove my old 1982 for about 500,000 kms and I might still be driving it but I just got sick of it.
...take a hammer and beat the living shit out of the front cab mounts, and inner fenders. If they're soft or it has ANY cab sag in front, pass on it! The '67-'72s were notorious rust buckets and I've owned several for proof. What can happen if the cab sags enough in front, it'll bind the inner shaft of the steering column and can saw through it! It happened to a '70 of mine but luckily the shaft broke in my driveway. Ford knew about this rust problem back then too. A friend bought a '71 new and by '73 it looked like it was 20 years old. He bitched enough to the Zone manager and threatened a lawsuit so FoMoCo bought it back.

Thanks for the tips guys. He sold it though. Oh well, it sure looked clean from the pics. I've got my eyes on a '78 F-150 but not sure I want to go with a 150... Last time I owned a 150 I cracked the frame in half and blew a shock mount clean off the frame. This 250 and my last 250 really held up well. If the last one wasn't so rusted (plow truck) I'd still be driving it.
I put my truck on Craigslist for $2500. If someone wants it for that they can have it, and I'll drive my convertible 'till I find another truck. I do like my truck though. It's not as nice body wise as my stepside 150 was, but I don't worry about breaking it. It sure rides nice too, despite not being an Xtra Luxurious Truck. Factoring in all the amenities (compressed air, 110v AC, nice stereo, extended cab) it's probably the nicest truck I've ever owned, but I've never owned anything except '80s trucks.
I got my eyes on a '70s Ford pickup. Standard cab short bed, looks like minimal rust. Gonna check it out this weekend if I can track it down between my other errands.
