My new toy

As I posted earlier, I am selling the Galaxie. Likely gonna sell my '90 BMW K100LT as well. For now, I picked up a '93 MarkVIII for $2K. It has 114K miles on it and is in pretty decent shape for the age. I kind of looked at it like this. I want a car that will handle, be comfortable for daily use, be reliable, have some get up and go, and still deliver decent gas mileage. This car seems to be a good platform from which to spring. It is based on the Tbird platform. It has the 32V 4.6 so a good many enhancers meant for mustangs should work with it. Basically, I hope to sell the Galaxie and Bike for enough to cover the money on the Mark.

Do any of you have any experience with the Mark VIII? I would love to hear pointers and tips.

LOTS of experience

Had a 93 that I bought with 50K miles. Air suspension is the week link along with typical doo-dad electrics. Don't fight the air bags and associated parts piece-meal. Once one thing goes, so does everything else. Either replace it all, (not cheap) or consider switching to Super Coupe springs from a Thunderbird. Great brakes, Wicked fast engine. 93's had the most horsepower. Mine would bark the tires in second gear anytime I was over 3000rpm. Comfortable, loved it. Get a set of fat tires with a set of Cobra R wheels. Email me on a diy lowering trick that won't cost a dime. My parents have two, a 98 and a 94. Loves premium fuel and lots of it. Funny thing, I could get 28 mpg on the highway, though. They're slick!

Welcome to the world of Lincoln Marks. Your reasoning for buying a MK VIII is the same as mine when I bought my '88 MK VII LSC almost 4 years ago. The air bags were replaced awhile back on mine, but other than a few electronic glitches my 5.0 HO. Linc is the best all around ride I've ever owned, including some heavy duty muscle cars back in the day..

I am pondering whether to convert the air suspension to coil spring 'premptively.' The car has 114K on it. I do not know if the air springs have ever been replaced. The thing rides very rough over rough surfaces. I am sure that I have the common rear upper shock mount problem. Advance Auto Parts carries a whole conversion kit including springs, struts, shocks, and upper rear shock mounts for about $430.00 I do kind of like the auto-leveling though. I think I may fix the upper shock mounts, replace the shocks and struts, and leave the air in place. As long as it doesn't ALL go bad at one time, I have found places to get the parts at a reasonable cost. (American Air Suspensions.) Then again, I am still tempted by the convert it and forget it philosophy.
