If you look on the wing there... The little dark blue square...

A canadian invention made not half a mile from where I am now... Its called a wing fence. back when the 18 was first made there was a problem with vortecies coming off of the Leading Edge extention (the wing on the side of the nose part of the fusealage) causing vibrations/ stresses on the two Vertical Stab's. After Lochkeed Marton failed to solve the problem by patching up the stressed areas forcing the problem to move somewhere else the Canadian Air Force came up with a solution to the problem. It moves the vortex put past the V-stab where it is harmless. As far as I know Canada, The US Navy and NASA, Austraulia, Kuwait? and prehaps others use this invention.
Blue Angels put on a great show. after I read "what bridge is it" I asked my 13 yr old daughter, what bridge is that? she said, "Golden Gate, it's only obvious". hmmm...a 13 yr old.
Actually Bob, it could also be the "Mighty Mac" if a person wasnt paying close enough attention to the hills in the background. Im sure that why Ed asked.
The Golden Gate is about 3900 feet longer, but the Mac actually has a longer span 3800 ft vs 1400 ft for the GG. The GG just has more spans that are less distance apart the the Mac
That Mackinac bridge is a stunner because there's just nothing else around it. Right up there with the Verazanno and GG for sure . . .
Personally, though, bridges scare the holy sh*t out of me. Seriously! I almost hyperventilate when I cross them, especially if I'm not driving. Not sure when that started, but it's been since I had kids. It's weird!
Reason I asked is, I have never seen the golden gate bridge.
The four days I spent in San Francisco I was confined to a hotel at the airport, classes in the daytime and studying/homework in the evening.
I knew it wasnt the Mighty Mackinaw Bridge, been across that one several times.
Looking down on the Straits of Mackinac when they are frozen all the way across on a sunny day is a cool sight.
Okay, so here's the genu-wine, true story about my fear of bridges. I had a dream one night in like 2001 that I was driving across what looked like the Bayonne bridge in Jersey in some old, yellow car (before I had the Mustang) with my boys in it, and in my dream I new I was going to crash and wipe us all out. It was such a vivid dream that I woke up all creeped out, and honestly, every time I've gone across a bridge since I freak out a bit, and it's getting worse! I was just home about a week ago and we drove across the Verazanno and I kid you not, I nearly passed out from anxiety. And I don't suffer from anxiety in the slightest. Also, about 3 months ago I was up in Idaho and looked at this bridge (FROM THE GROUND!) that I used to jump off into the river when I was a kid, and that nearly buckled my legs and creeped me out for the next three days. Like I said, it's just plain weird and I don't understand it for the life of me, but it appears it's here to stay. So now you know.
