Anybody rebuild a 2 speed Oldmobile automatic 1968 vintage? Is it something I can do or is it a specialty only?

Generally you can do a transmission if you have a factory shop manual. Of course you need to have a clue about automatics......

Parts might be a problem with that one, though. Check around to see what's available before you pop it open. If you have to go the any of the antique trans part vendors be prepared to write a big check.

I don't think a Jetaway and a PG are the same. I'm guessing this is in a Cutlass with the dual pitch convertor?

It's a 68 Cutlass, and one shop quoted 950 to $1,100 for the job if I handed it to them.

I'm restoring the engine for the lad that owns it, the tard paid $15K for the Vert Cuddy (put the new top on after buying it) and the low oil pressure light is alway's on and other issues like a slipping tranny

The tranny shop siad it might be a 300 so I guess I gotta I.D. it before hand, but I was wondering if they were hard or not. I did a C-4 no prblem, but there are only about 7 moving parts in a C-4...

Any more advice like maybe where to buy the vintage tranny kit?

Gary

Dual pitch... forgot about those! The 2-speeds I have done have been simple with a good manual. Buy a transmission specific manual & it's not too bad. Best to make sure of the trans. If it's a Cutlass I would be suprised to see a 2-speed Jetaway in it.

For what you pay at bulkparts.com you can afford not to buy from anyone else, they beat my wholesaler
