E85

Do you guys have E85 stations where you live?  My truck can burn it, but there's only four stations that sell it in the state (all at least 40 minutes from my house) and the price is the same as regular fuel.  I know the greens are saying it's not the solution, but with 10MM+ flexfuel cars on the road today, I wish they'd get their act together here and make it available to us!

Why? E85 has less energy per gallon than gasoline and consequently provides less power and about 25% poorer gas mileage. Combine that with the fact that it takes more net energy to produce ethanol than it provides, plus it's caused corn prices to double in the past year and you've simply got another kneejerk "solution" to our energy needs brought to you by Algore and his minions, rubberstamped via congress who're gettin' kickbacks guarnteed.

Other than that, it's cool...

Add to that, E85 has caused meat prices to go up. Not to mention anything else that has corn in it.....

Yeah, I know it's not the ultimate solution and it's criticized by environmentalists for not doing enough, but I'd like to give it a try since my truck can run it.  The loss of economy I've heard is closer to 10%, but I'd like to see for myself.  The thing is Salt Lake City has some of the worst air in the country (some days it's actually the worst) and the 30% emissions reductions do seem worth the effort, along with the fact that I'd personally like to do what I can now to limit my oil use.

Here's a shot of Salt Lake's beautiful mountain air I just took from my office (with my phone so it's hard to really see what it's like) - what you can't see in the picture is what you can't see from the window  - the whole city two miles away right in front of you, and a MASSIVE mountain range straight ahead about 15 miles out.  You can barely make out the tops if you look close.  If I were to drive about 500 feet up the mountain today I'd be in crystal clear blue skies looking down at a blanket of nasty brown goop  When the air looks like ours and you drive a truck that looks like mine, you start to develop a guilty complex, and I'll do whatever I can to help I suppose.

Denver has the same problems... It takes a HUGE storm to blow the smog out of the Salt Lake Valley and the Denver area as well...
I remember the day's when you could see all the way from Point of the Mountain Practically to Provo...

That's a gorgeous place when the smog is gone...
