Mike (and anybody else interested), I have test fitted a 7" wide rim for the rear.

This is how it stands right now:

rear are 225x60 on 15x8" and front are 205x60 on 15x7"

I then swapped the front wheel and rear wheel to check the fittings of an 7" wide rim:

rear are 205x60 on 15x7" and front are 225x60 on 15x8"

I have to say that apart from being a 205 at the rear, there is plenty of space in the wheel housing.
With the 7", the wheel does not stick out like the 8" one.
You will also notice that the front is higher now with the 225 tire up front LOL

15x7"

15x8"

I think you know what I'll be ordering soon

Not that I matter... But I think the 15X8 is the better fitting and looking of the two...

A 235/60/15 on a 15x7 wheel with a 4.25" to 4.5" backspace is about as big as you can go and be guaranteed not to rub. The 8" wheel just puts the tire too close to the quarter panel lip and makes it rub on bumps. (but you seem to already know that) LOL

Good Luck!

A friend has a 69 fastback with some Magnum 500s in 15x7" with 235x60
We are going to do a straight swap, he takes my 15x8" with 225x60 and I get his 15x7" with 235

That will save both of us quite a few $$$
