The goal is to make the old station wagon in Picture 1 look like the nice station wagon in Picture 2.
The plan is to replace the LeSabre 364 2bbl with an Electra 401 4bbl, replace the manual crank windows with power windows, and whatever other tricks we can come up with.......
The answer to that is very simple. If you can afford to be different might as well be different.
Line up a row of Mustangs, Camaros, or 55/57 Chevies.
Put a knockout car right in the middle of the row and by the time the majority of folks get to that point the will have seen enough and walk right past it.
Now put this red 59 Buick in the middle and see what happens.
Case in point: The 60 Edsel at Woodward.
Cars cruise by, Shelby GT350, Hemicuda, Pro Street Blown 69 Camaro......people sit on their lawn chairs and watch them go by. Uh-huh....uh-huh....
Then the 60 Edsel comes by. People get off their chairs, walk to the curb and say "WOW! What is this cool car????"

I thought it was because I was riddin in the car
I feel the same way. I think the wagon is really going to be cool.
I really like Mustangs, Cameros and all Mopars, but how many can you look at and still appreciate them. Your senses just seem to "dull" to alot of nice cars. Put a Edsel or Cyclone or nice Fairlane in there and people just seem to notice them more.
I was at "Back to The Fifties" in the Twin Cities with a friend of mine and it was his first time. He was ohhhing and ahhhing and I told him, you can stop anytime you want to anywhere on the fairgrounds and count at least 6 or 8 tri five chevys and almost as many 49/50 Mercs. All killer cars but they become invisible because of their numbers.
I still think the people were getting out of their chairs and walking to the curb and saying "WOW" becauce of me, if Greg wants to believe it was the Edsel, I wont burst his bubble.
It's already going non-original, so I say all red. Seems to go better with the huge amount of stainless around the windows. The wide whites....I'd go for more meat on each corner and alloy wheels. Or even wide red steelies with beauty rings and hub caps.
Since you asked...I never like wide whites, even when they are correct for the car or period. So I say no. I think the white roof makes the car look slimmer top to bottom. I wold consider keeping it.
I have no scientific way to measure the wide whites on that SW but as far as I know the 59 should have 2 1/2" or 2 3/8" whites. Those aren't the REAL wide ones.
Some whitewall tire guys are like hot rodder camshaft/carburetor guys.....if more is better then too much is just right!
The car will be all red with the deluxe wheel covers same as the "nice" wagon with narrower 2 1/2" whites.
