I like 460Ford, neven notices problems over there but I dont hang out there much. I always tell people if you need to know about 385 series motors, thats the place to go. The Fe forum I visit once and a while but I really dont like the way its setup as a website.

I am not sure

May 7 2008, 5:48 AM

All I remember was some dick saying some racist shit about Cinco De mayo(sp?)
and then people complaining about the racism and then he defended his anti mexican comments by saying he was spanish and irish which really does not make any sense to me and it didn't make any sense to the mods cause apparently it got deleted and then he threatened to leave or some such.

For better or worse, they Admins on the Fe Forum try to keep the "on topic" ie Fe related. If things get too far off topic or beligerent it will be deleted. I missed the actual topic too, but as everyone should know this is "real" story behind Sinko De Mayo:
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellman's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. The "Titanic" was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after New York City.

The Mexican people were eagerly awaiting delivery and were disconsolate at the loss. So much so that they declared a national day of mourning which they still observe today. It is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

Tom, if you read all the posts you'd know better than to simplify it and somewhow make it look like it was unreasonable with that moron

It wasnt as simple as off topic posting. The guy is a troll and an FE fan, so he walks the line between causing trouble and being in the forum

Seems like every 6 months he has a premature brain ejaculation and starts a fight

I hate it, but it usually only lasts a few days. Most of us have realized he isnt worth typing a reply to, but some others still try to reason with him. Its the equiv of pi$$ing in the wind, he seems to enjoy chaos in a forum

What our astute Commander and Chief Greg means is, no more counting in Spanish, you know... Things like Uno, Dos, Tres, Quatro mexican's that can't swim go, Sinko.

Stuff like that. No more off topic stuff or Greg is gonna start shutting things down!

So keep it on topic! That stuff over on the fe forum was minutely annoying...

You know, The reason I LIKE this forum IS that we can post things of any variety. This forum is nominally to advertise and promote Greg's work. What it really is the Gas Station where all the guys congregate to BS and solve the world's problems. I often think if the guys from the station were put in charge for awhile that many of the problems would indeed be solved. The Gas Station of my youth was a Gulf/Chevron/BP station with two then later four bays. The mechanic was the owner. The mechanic's assistant almost literally came with the station when the owner bought it. This guy was a sharp mechanic. He was a grumpy guy. Moderately overweight with a big dip of snuff always in. The assistant was an older guy, rail thin always smoking a cigarello. They were quick, good, and cheap if you needed something done badly. (In the owner's estimation) If it wasn't critical, then it was done well and cheap, but it was no hurry to them. I had a cam and lifters done in my first Galaxie. It took him about 4 months to get it done. The car was a toy for me, and he knew it. So when someone needed something to keep being able to work, that took priority. He was always backed up. I bought my first V8 equipped car from him. It was a '71 Dart Swinger w/ a 318. I bought it for $300.00. He let me buy it over 4 months. WHen the exhaust fell off, he fixed it right away, and only charged me about $30 bucks to do it. When I broke down 35 miles away, he came and towed me home for $30. WHen I bought me a parts car, he went the 70 miles away to get it and charged me $70.00. He would fuss at me if I wanted to do something he deemed frivalous - "PO-LEECE MAGNET!!!" he would warn. Or "WHy in HELL do you want to do that???" His station was always full of guys of all ages stopping in to chat for awhile. I was one of them. I would hang around there and just watch him work. Other than an occasional question, I would keep my mouth shut as I watched him work. I learned so much from him. He died in 1996 at the age of 41. His assistant died back a few years ago. He was in his 70's The old station has has a few businesses in it since, but none were the type where you could go and solve the world's problems. None lasted. The old station is vacant now. I miss it and them terribly. Thanks to John and Mack, I know how to do most of my own work.

This forum is composed of the same atmosphere and type of people that inhabited Shelor's Chevron in Buchanan, VA.

That, my friends, is the highest compliment I could possibly make to all of you here.

Nice that you think of it that way. I feel pretty much the same way. Stop by, hang out, talk about what you want to talk about. That's the way it started out at the other place before it got big. I don't think this place will ever get big and that's okay with me.

Quality beats quantity any time....

It is really a hangout rather than a place to promote my shop. I don't know if you have noticed that there is no contact info on Cook's Garage or Cook's Restorations. No phone number, no email address.

I just like to share what I have done with other guys and if anyone gets any enjoyment out it that's cool. If not, just hang out and make fun of Chick, I mean Chuck.

May Offend. Read with caution!!!

Well, tron suit aside...

The 'other' place was somewhat like this. I can see their point. For them it IS a business. The forums are a support vehicle for the webzine. The banter could be a liability for them. They are like a dealership's service department compared to the corner service station - You.

I prefer the more informal environment here. I have not been to the other place in over a year or more.

Let me tell you a story about the station of my youth.

Mack, the assistant, was always being ribbed by John about being well endowed. Mack took the ribbing good naturedly. Well, a buddy of mine and I were always kind to this family that lived down the road from my buddies house. Most of the family was retarded to a varying degree. The youngest boy was less retarded in than the others. He was with us one day when John was ribbing Mack about tearing up some woman with his hog leg. Well, a few days later, my buddy and I were going to the closest city and we let the boy (about 14 at the time) come along. Well, he asked about Mack on the way. So we told the boy this::

John had to go pick up some parts. When he got back to the station, It was all locked up. The closed sign was displayed, but there was a Vette sitting outside with CA tags. John was a bit worried, because Mack was getting old. SO he went into the office and no one was there. So he stepped out into the garage. There Mack was with the lift up about 3 feet. He had the driver of the vette, a busty blonde, bucked over the lift, throwing that 14 incher to her. John just stood there in shock, the dip tumbling from his stunned lips......

Well, the boy believed every word.

So we pass by Mack's house on the way. As we do, the kid starts bouncing up and down in the rear seat. He was almost screaming. "There!! There is where THE DICK lives!!!!!" I almost wrecked the car I was laughing so hard. I told John about that one later. Of course, he had to add it to the arsenal of things to rib ol' Mack about.

It is very interesting to me thinking of the characters that have passed through my life. Because of the variety of characters, I get along with so many different groups. I can hang with the rednecks or I can hang with the preppies. I get along with the conservatives and the liberals. I have friends among the police, the alcholics, the staunchly religious, the gays, the blacks, the whites, the hispanics. There have been few with which I could not reach an understanding. Those few were not for lack of effort on my part.

Here, Chuck is a character such as Mack once was at the station.

If I live long enough, I will meet some of you guys and gals.

Have Fun and enjoy yourselves. If you find yourself in a position to improve our lot, do so. Life is too short to do otherwise.

I go to the auto club on base, they have 5? lifts, 4 open pays, a wash bay and a small metal/ wheel bay. When im in there its like being here, if I got a problem or im taking a wile and look frusterated about somthing someone might come by and see whats giving me the trouble and or are more then happy to help if i walk up and say "hey, was wondering if you can hold this/ do that for me for a sec", "whats this mean in this wire schematic". everyones happy to help and as am I and have done before when I saw a guy having more then a fun time with a transmission and lift under a truck by himself. If im working in the welding bay doing working on my box guys come in and say "Hey, thats cool, nice welder, whats that for, good job, etc..." Hell, I was doing a break job on my truck and lost a pin clip thing in a drain and wile i was trying to modify a nail to do the job the guy gave me some spare parts he had left over fomr a kit he used for a job a few days earlier.

Ummm, where was I again?

Ahh yes, love this place.
