whats a dash like this worth?
Ed, if you're going to post pictures here make them fit the screen. No 3 foot wide pictures.

The other pedal is for the clutch
The fluid drive is a 2 speed standard tranny with a torque converter unit on it... I think it is... My 49 was that way but it was a 3 speed...

Something must be wrong with me because this car Kermit posted has me set on 1954 Mercury Montclair Glass Top.....
What the hell is it?
Greg (Login BattlestarOne ) Garage-Owner Re: Got a Hemi in it! May 14 2008, 7:17 AM
Not a torque convertor but rather a fluid coupling. Big difference.
Anyway, the fluid coupling that looks similar to a torque convertor bolts to the back of the crank. On the back side of the fluid coupling is a surface that looks like a stick shift flywheel. Bolted to that is a conventional dry clutch. The transmission splines into the dry clutch.
The main purpose of the fluid coupling is to allow the car to be driven in stop and go traffic without having to use the clutch. You are able to stop the car without stepping on the clutch.
There are different transmissions behind the fluid drive depending on the model. Some have a regular 3 on the tree, some have a 2 on the tree, some have a planetray overdrive "semi-automatic".
On all units you have to disengage the clutch to shift to reverse. Some you have to clutch to shift through the forward gears, some not.
Ed, that dash is worthless unless somebody needs it.

That dash is an art-deco work of art. Cool stuff.

Thanks Tim, I did manage to get into e-bay 1/2 hour later, must have been my local server.
That's a nice looking setup. Not in my top 10 favorites but it still looks nice.
What was that Car that Ed (for some reason I said Kermit earlier) posted with the gigantic picture?
Greg (Login BattlestarOne ) Garage-Owner Re: Got a Hemi in it! May 14 2008, 11:13 AM
52/54 Mercury.
I dumped the picture because it was so big. It makes it difficult to read the posts when the board gets to be 3 feet wide.

sorry, it wasent that big when I took the link.

Some sites have an automatic downsize dealy. This one doesn't. Check and be sure it's less than 800 wide. Makes it better for everyone.

Could be but it would have the same dash as a 4 door sedan.
