Hello all.
Sorry I dont' log on very much at all anymore, (but I do lurk). :>)
Anyway, just thought I"d pass this tidbit along.
Dale (my former video bitch/race pal), emailed me last nite. The guy (from colorado), that purchased my 8 second stang BLEW IT TO SMITHEREENS.
Dale sent a short email just basicaly saying that the dude scattered it to the winds. Only thing useable (with new valves), were the heads.
There was a piece of block hanging out the side, still attached to a part of the oil pan.
I had to call Larry. (my former engine builder). Didn't get many more details, but he said it let go at over 7 grand, with a pow.
The dude (new owner), actually had the balls to ask if there was any kind of warranty on it.........can you freaking imagine? He's been racing it pretty much NONSTOP since he bought it from me..............
Anyway, the car's ok, just the motors kaput. Larry said he's NEVER seen anyone wreck a dart block. EVER. (and he puts together a buttload of dart blocks for the roundie rounders).
So, that's my story. If there's anyone in the colorado/and phoenix arizona racetrack areas that runs into him, (name's Dale Schroeder), ask him for details. I'd love to hear 'em.
Gotta hurt when they blow the big money motors. Put the bulletproof goodies in it so it doesn't break, but letting $10k go when it explodes is a nightmare I'd imagine.
I saw a guy pop an A460 block ('64 Fairlane chassis car) a few years back, during his burnout. Chunks o'rod hanging out the block on the driver side. I'd have to guess any guy running the good block had some good innards as well, this one was an aluminum rod deal so you know how that goes.
Sucks to be that guy.
