My computer crashed a while back and took a lot of files with it. The Maxtor hard drive was about 4 years old and it started sounding "crunchy" while it worked, until one day it didn't (work, that is). The repair geek at Micro Center where I've bought all my stuff for the past 7-8 years said he couldn't get anything off it. The mother board had a couple leaky capacitors and the main processor chip cooling fan was locked up. OK, my bad for not backing it all up. Anyway, I get the second hard drive that still worked put into a USB case to keep it and the info on it.
I got to thinking that even when crippled, the crashed drive would work when just fired up and then slowly go away. Sooooo I bought an extra drive case and put the crashed drive into it. Only took three tries, but I got all the old files off it....hurray! Most of my digital photos of cars over the last 5 years were in there. Man, am I a happy camper. It's all backed up now too.
Here's what I could have lost!
