My Galaxie is unoffically back on the road

I finally got to take my Galaxie out for a short test drive tonight with the newly installed 460PI,C6 and GearVendor o/d. No real issues but one thing is very clear, I am going to need some different mufflers. I put on some Hedman 3" glasspacks that turned down at the axle and they are REALLY loud! When I stepped on it, it sounded just like open headers and it really throbs when it is at idle. My ears are still ringing a little. I got those because I am not a real fan of turbo mufflers but I may have to reconsider. However, the oil pressure is great, the engine temp is great, no leaks, no strange vibrations and it feels like it going to have plenty of power. Life is good! happy.gif

Good deal. I like the Hooker Aerochambers, lots of low growl & they don't sound like Flowmasters. Big engines & glasspacks are tough on the ears. Sounds like you are going to have a fairly quick Gal man!

I have a set of super turbo mufflers and I love them.
There's a good growl at idle and a great sound when you floor it wink.gif

Flowmasters are fer chebbie fanboys.happy.gif The Dynomax racing mufflers (I think that's what they were) I got from Chilly for the Starliner sounded killer with a good throb but little ear blistering higher register stuff. Oh, the x pipe helped a ton, too. Congrats on getting the monster back on tarmac.

I Hate FlowMasters ...

April 16 2009, 2:24 PM

...they sound like trash cans - the ringing and resonance ruins (personal opinion) the sound of the exhaust at anything above idle. Thats the mildest comment I can come up with. As a track-only muffler, to meet the new laws against motorsports sound/decible levels, - I can see some reason for them - do what you have to, Flow masters can be hard to "blow-out".

Turbo Mufflers, in the right size and  inlet/exhaust diameter give you all the sound you can use, let the performance flow, have just as low restriction and still let a man of "mature" years drive his car without have to tell folks that his "son" put them Loud a$h pipes on the car and it would cost too much to replace them. wink.gif

I say this only in the spirit of Full disclosure. I have had to bite my tongue more than once when asked by some Mustang owner "how do you like the sound of my FlowMasters"? Sometimes Ya' just don't want to take a chance on hurt feelings or discouraging a person from the hobby. I'm just glad that more people share the idea that it doesn't have to be loud to be effective.
