...Then you best stick with restorin' catalog mustangs. NOS parts for these Cyclones are gettin' stupid. Don't believe me? Lookee here: (Oh, Gary, you might wanna look away...) I sure am glad mine rechromed ok!!

Well,,,,let's take what he says. How does he know they are the last ones left on the planet? Generally, the number of parts exceeds the production of the vehicle, right? There were dies made to stamp them and they cover two years, so there's a good chance of running into some worthy enough to use.

Second, if you get $2k per set then you are creating the conditions for repoping them. I use the case of the $250 60 Falcon trunk handles and emblem as proof that if the cost of original stuff gets high enough then it will become profitable to sell repops just under the crazy price.

I'm not the expert in the parts like FX is, but how many Ford/Merc vehicles will these actually fit?

This one got me curious and it looks like there were about 20,000 fastbacks made in 68-69 that would have had these on them? If you assume that Mercury only made 10% of these for parts over the two years that makes about 22,000 pairs that went out the door. It sounds like a lot, but that was over 30 years ago. Maybe they got made into beer cans for Budweiser? happy.gif

The problem with NOS is that when you put it next to show chrome it looks like dog poop. And getting everything NOS is just about impossible anymore. So whatever.....if you have a pair of castings that are even decent you can get them show chrome for WAY less than 2 grand!

NOS for anything is high. I saw a hood trim piece for a 70 Cyclone fetch $1100 a couple of years ago.

I have a spare deck led with a handle on it in good condition and can't get 100 bucks for. Them bezeles around if you look hard enough for them. I once had an nos center section of the grill for the 69 cyclone bought for 50 bucks 17 years ago.

When I went to Fords/Carlisle a few weeks ago I saw more good NOS and used trim thatn I had seen in many years.

Makes total sense to me.......when the economy is good and people have money to spend HIDE AND HORDE your stuff! Then when the economy turns to shit and you need money bring your stuff out and try to sell it to people who have no money because the economy is shit! Then bitch because nobody is buying anything.

Sometimes I think parts vendors are the greediest and stupidest people on earth.

As soon as the Time machine is perfected....

... prices will come down! Just think about it - if you wanted a primo 57 Ford Fairlane, just hop in the Time machine, travel back and plonk down your $2,999 and buy a fresh one. Not sure what the transportation charges might be, but what the heck the price would be good. wink.gif
