How do you remove it? What's the trick in removing the bolt?

The big bolt on the front of the crank?

Depending on accessibilty you turn it counterclockwise (looking from the front of the car). Usually use a socket and breaker bar but sometimes an extension is required. If stuff like radiator shroud or whatever is in the way you'll have to remove that first.

If you have an air impact wrench you can usually rattle it off. If the crank turns while attempting to loosen the bolt you have to block the flywheel/flexplate at the ring gear.

Yep, long breaker bar or ratchet, and jam a tooth on the flywheel with a strong screwdriver or tire iron.

They're on there thight, 90 - 140 ft lbs on come cases.

You can also jam the wrench and hit the starter. You just want to be careful. wink.gif

I usually thread a couple of the lower pully bolts in the damper & insert a long pry bar I have & get it tight against the water pump & viola!

The bolts in the pulley always bend when I do it Rick's way, that's why I jam the flywheel tooth with a large strong screwdriver...

but in a pinch, or yu don't have a breakover or can't find that socket you need...?

one end of a 4-way lug wrench...there is a socket that fits - if the radiator is removed first, you'll need a lot of room. The good thing about using it is ... you can shock it, by hitting one of the cross bars with a hammer and not feel like a caveman.
