Police chase

I just got home from a ride on my bicycle. When I was on my way home a red Porcshe 944 came flying around the corner and headed south on the street I was traveling north on. Next came 1-2-3-4-5 Sheriff cars then 2 State Police cars followed by 3 more Sheriff cars.
This looked big! This was in a residential area, lots of kids playing in yards, 25mph speed limit. At the end of the street, the direction I was traveling, is the neighborhood Sheriff field office, only the last 3 Sheriff cars came from that direction.
Next a State Police car and a Sheriff car came back by me going north. And as they were going by me I heard the crash up at the end of the block, right in front of the Sheriff office. I saw the guy running across the street, I heard yelling, and I heard one shot.
As I traveled the last half block to the scene of the crash I saw the rest of the cops running to where the guy was lying in a heap on somebodys front lawn. The Porsche was smashed against a utility pole, the windshield was broken where the driver probably hit his head before he got out and ran.
That was more entertainment than I usually get while riding.

A police chase involving a suspected bank robber ended this evening when the suspect's car crashed in Ypsilanti Township.

After a chase through Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti Township that reached speeds of up to 70 mph - at times exceeding the speed limit by 30 mph - the man's vehicle crashed into the concrete foundation of a sign at Holmes and Harris roads in Ypsilanti Township, said Cmdr. Dieter Heren of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.

There were no injuries in the crash, which occurred at about 7:30 p.m., and the man exited his vehicle. He was Tasered and arrested by a deputy about a block away, Heren said.

Heren said the man - whose name, age and hometown were unavailable - was a suspect in a bank robbery in Ann Arbor. Heren did not have details about the bank robbery.

The chase included patrol cars from the sheriff's department, state police and Ypsilanti Police, Heren said.

So, the police up there can tell the difference between a Taser and a real 9mm Glock, just by touch? We need some of them out here in California. Even a speed-crazed, bank robber is going to get his day in court, instead of summary execution for disturbing the peace on a train.

How do they do that? Must be magic!

Man apprehended after high-speed chase in Ypsilanti area to appear in court

A man is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on a host of charges after authorities say he led them on a chase Wednesday that ended when he crashed his car in Ypsilanti Township.

The man, who was wanted on bank robbery charges, struck a Michigan State Police vehicle with his car during the chase, which Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies say reached speeds of 70 miles per hour.

The suspected robber ditched his Porsche after hitting the concrete foundation of a sign at Holmes and Harris roads, authorities said.

The man ran before a deputy Tasered him, authorities said.

The man was wanted by Ann Arbor police on charges of bank robbery and armed robbery.

He is accused of walking into the TCF Bank branch at Briarwood Mall on June 24, handing a note to a teller demanding money, then leaving with less than $1,000, Ann Arbor police said.

The man also is accused of committing an armed robbery at a Marathon gas station the same day, police said.

Police found suspected crack cocaine in the man's shoe at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was taken after the 7:33 p.m. incident, Ypsilanti police said.

===========================================================

This ended about 3 miles from my home. I thought it odd that I saw about 3 or 4 cop cars parked along the streets in the different neighborhoods that I passed through on my bicycle as I traveled to that area. (I travel this route several times a week and almost never see cop cars just parked idling along the neighborhood streets.)

Since the crimes were committed a month prior, I think this may have been a preplanned and coordinated effort by the different police agencies. The patrol cars that I observed during my travels were probably strategically positioned in preparation to apprehend their suspect.

Its good to see the police actually fighting crime rather than just giving out unnecessary citations for minor traffic violations.

Female Copper kills handcuffed man

Absolutely Great police work......California Cop Mistakes Gun for Taser and Kills Handcuffed Suspect
Published 1, December 19, 2007 Bizarre , Criminal law , Justice 1 Comment

Recently, a viewer asked if I was not a bit too critical of tasers and asked if they were not better than having to resort to guns. The most obvious answer is that tasers are now used by some officers as a first response, though most officers use them appropriately. The choice is not between a taser and a gun. However, the case below shows this perils of such a choice and confusion with Madera officer Marcy Noriega.
In 2002, Noriega responded to a disturbance of the peace In Madera California. Twenty-four-year-old Everardo Torres was arrested, handcuffed, and placed in the back of a squad car. The police insisted that Torres was trying to kick the windows out so Noriega grabbed what she thought was her taser and shot him in the chest. It turned out to be her 40-caliber Glock instead and she killed Torres.

The family the city and the city sued the manufacture of the Taser M26 saying that it was defectively designed due to its resemblance to a real gun. however, a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit. Moreover, Noriega was incredibly cleared of any charges by the department. Presumably, other objects like coffee cups, staplers, and pens have been clearly marked to avoid further carnage.

Not being anti-police ... but sometimes you have to wonder - Why?

July 31 2009, 6:34 PM

Why cover it up,   blow a small thing to a big, career changeing problem. Most cops get the benefit of the doubt from jury, judges and public opinion.

Texas: Cops Frame Man for DUI
A Dallas, Texas area musician sues police after finding evidence they may have conspired to frame him for DUI.

A sober motorist is suing four Plano, Texas police officers after uncovering evidence that they may have conspired to frame him on driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) charges on October 18, 2006. Tray Boswell, a Dallas area musician, is now fighting back. He filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in the Texas Eastern District Court in September, charging officers Jon Britton, Scott Copeland, Ron Kress and Michael Nunns with conspiring with his ex-wife, Sarah Boswell, to arrest him for DUI in October last year. At the time, the Boswells were in the midst of a divorce where such an arrest could have swayed the proceedings.

The alleged conspiracy failed after the DUI trial gave Tray Boswell access to Sarah Boswell's mobile phone records. These showed multiple contacts between her and the personal cell phones of each of the four officers both prior to and after the arrest. Prosecutors quickly dropped the charges against Tray Boswell, but officials insist the officers did nothing wrong.

"We will vigorously defend them," Plano City Attorney Dianne Wetherbee told the Plano Star-Courier newspaper.
