So, you say you spend $17K in parts plus labor to restore a car, like the CV below. So tell me, are you gonna go to Autozone and pay $5.00 for a Chinese air cleaner?? I've pulled some bonehead stuff before too, but I dunno...
Besides just strangling his motor with virtually no air flow, yes, he just put a shine on that car big time and has no original style air filter?? Very wierd.
Well, there's more to this one than meets the eye. Check along the top of the rear window. Could be pixilation, but sure looks like somebody painted the top of this thing with a roller to me...
Maybe, but looking at the qtr window it may be a reflection of the trees next to the car. of course there needs to be an inspection in person before offers can be made.
I have always been amazed at those that have a big breathing engine and place a 'let's chocke the F$@k out of it' air cleaner on it.
If I replace the bed on my beater truck and do a bit of work to the cab, I am gonna get EARL to do the 'paint over the birdsh%t' special paint job on it.
It's not the correct engine for the car. That style carb was not avaiable until 1957. Therefore the correct air cleaner will not work. Unless you use a 57/59 air cleaner which is not correct anyway. Note the spin on oil filter, also 1957 and later. Note the power steering pulley on the crank which is not being used.
If the engine is a 272, but more than likely a 292, it's a 4400 rpm engine. That carb flows about 350 cfm. So if you do the math that air cleaner is adequate but it still looks cheap and stupid.
Most 272 had single exhaust, where the crossover was inside the engine compartment - crossing above the water pump between the valve covers and the fan.
Pretty sure the tires have "new" air in them too. LOL ...OK, the last one was a little over the top.
As far as I recall all 55/56 Fairlane V-8s had dual exhaust therefore no "elbow burner" up front. V-8s with single exhaust in lower line models had the front crossover pipe.
Come to think of it I'm pretty sure all 55/56 Fairlane V-8s had 4 bbl carb. In early 55 only 272 was available in Fords.
