Can anyone recommend a good chassis black with a flat finish? I tried the Eastwood product and it is wayyyy too glossy for my taste. Maybe I can tone down the Eastwood stuff?

All the chassis black I've used was that glossy stuff... I like semi gloss as a frame preference.

Pints, quarts, gallons, spray cans, whatever you desire, my friend!

I wouldn't recommend a flat finish because if anything like oil or silicone gets on it you'll have a shiny area that will look odd.

Semi-Gloss or Satin is much better and easier to maintain. Zip on down to Wally World and buy some Semi-Gloss Rust-O-Leum. If they don't have Semi, just buy a quart of Gloss and a quart of Flat and mix it together. Good cheap durable paint. If possible, sandblast the surface and leave it rough. If there was any grease in the area scrub it down with lacquer thinner before and afterwards and let it dry thoroughly.

Then start building thin coats on the rough surface. The paint will soak in to the rough surface on the first few coats, then you can build heavier as you go. With the paint soaking into the surface it is very durable. You can bump it with a wrench and it won't chip.

There are other paints, but good old Rust-O is readily available and cheap.

I followed Cook's Rustoleum tip years ago and was amazed at how close it was to factory chassis black. Good stuff.

I will give it a shot. Can't be any worse than what I have now!

I used this stuff on my Fairlane.http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10551_10001_44002_-1______?rFlag=true&cFlag=1 I would have to check the part number to see if it was the low gloss or something else.It is not gloss, sort of a satin I guess.I figured if it was implement paint it would be pretty tough.I used the hardner and have been pleased with it.Pends on if you want the factory look or just not gloss.I am doing the frame on my SD right now and it is going to be gloss like the upper part of the truck, with the shocks, sway bars, driveshaft, rear end cover and a few things like that, painted silver,to match the lower part.Sand blasted the aluminum tranny and transfer case and put clear on them.Turned out pretty good, looks good all shiny and smooth.
