The question: "Is the US too reliant on foreign oil?"

I remember seeing a bumper sticker in 1968 (let's see...that's 41 years ago) that said "A Country That Runs On Oil Can't Afford To Run Out". I think whoever is posing this question has to be a true idiot. Or maybe he just hasn't been paying attention???

Oil/smoil

China + Japan hold a total of 44% of US debt, OPEC only 6%. We can use the oil and the exporters can use the cash and maybe buy stuff from us. The debt holders don't need a devalued dollar, but we need their investment to finance all this debt BS. So which is a bigger problem...???

I remember one former president (Reagan or Bush #1 ?), not sure who, but one of them had a plan to use foreign oil 1st and save our oil to use after the the foreign oil is all gone; if it ever does run out. This sounds like a good plan to me, as long as we can still offord to buy the foreign oil. Also it seems that I remember something about our military buying foreign oil and stockpiling it in underground reserves for future use if needed.

Whoever keeps saying we should limit importing foreign oil and use our own has it all wrong. Yes we should be looking for ways to limit oil use and find alternative energy resources. But as long as we are reliant on oil, we should be trying to import as much foreign oil as possible and try to hang on to our oil to use when we can no longer import any oil.
