Yes, and the moron in the Malibu would have been more likely to be involved in a head-on cuz he was texting, fiddling with his MP3 player or trying to get his 46oz slurpy out of the cup holder. Meanwhile, the driver of the 59 would have had his hands full just trying to keep the old boat straight on the road.

Looked like a pretty nice old 59. So I guess that perimeter frame just folded like an accordian. All I can think about was the destruction of a bunch of nice trim.

I may be wrong but I think the 59 Chevy has an X frame with no side rails.

Wow! That '59 didn't stand a chance.
I don't know about actual weight but my 1st car, a '63 Impala convertible had a title weight of 3500 and change. It also had a X frame with no side rails but I think it had extra reinforcement at the rockers because it was a ragtop.

you're right. I was thinking about my 59 Olds that had it. Apparently the X-frame was a recipe for a deathtrap.

There weren't many 59's with the X style frame were there? I mean if it was a 59 Ford, do you think the same results would have come about?

No, the 59 Ford hood is hinged at the front so it wouldn't have popped up like the Chevy. The latch at the rear would have broken and the rear edge of the hood would have cut the driver in half.

Crash Test Dummies

September 16 2009, 2:34 PM

Hey Greg I watched it several times was reminded of a Friends 59 with tri power 348...I knew then it was a death trap. However I think the 59 could be Rebuilt and the 2009 is headed to Pick a Part! Back then our cars survived us and today we survive our cars so In many ways we have progressed.

I dont think there was a motor and trans in the '59. Im sure they removed some bolts here and there to make the wreck look worse for the '59, after all, they're trying to sell the malibu, not the 59.

Rigged

September 20 2009, 2:41 PM

I saw no motor in this car. HUGE plumes of rust dust came issueing out from the 59. This game was rigged. That '59 was a repainted rustbucket. I think one in perfect new condition like the Malibu would have done better. I would like to see how a 67 Galaxie would fare. Even better put a new crown vic against the malibu.
