I saw this in a newsletter I get. With all the talk of 59 Buicks, I thought someone might be interested.

Over 60K spent but we didn't want to bother researching the correct engine color and we didn't want to waste time or money putting the correct tires on it......

One of the guys on the B-59 forum just bought this one......

Kind of a cool story to go with it.

From Buick-59.com:

"Yesterday was a "red letter" day for me. I now feel that I am really apart of this club, because I can now stand up before you guys and say what Dave said at the BCA banquet in Colorado Springs last July-"I own a Buick-1959!" Having been exposed to the 59 Buick as a 5th grader for the first time and having received a massive dose of exposure to the 59 Buick at the 50th anniversary celebration, how could I not succumb to purchasing a 59 Buick? Let me tell you what I have learned about my 59 Buick. First of all she is of course as close as I can get to my dad's Buick that he owned from 1959-1965. It is a 4 door flattop sedan Buick Invicta. Brian Clark please tell Lucille she now has another sister to help carry the banner for this body style (there is the practical LeSabre, the elegant Electra, and then there is the "hot rod" Invicta-my favorite because it was my dad's favorite). My car however was made at the GM Plant in Canada. She is artic white with a copper top and copper glow interior. My understanding is that this color combination could only be ordered in Canada and not in the United States (my dad's car had the artic white top and was not made in Canada). Thus my dad and I have named the car "Copper Top". I am also told that the Canadian copper color is a different shade than the copper color used by the USA GM Plant. On my car the exterior was repainted, but it was repainted to match exactly the original colors. The car was sold new to a Mr. Frank in Winnipeg, Canada. When Mr. Frank died in 1997, the car went to his grandson in 1997 who brought the car to California where the grandson lived. The car only had 38,000 original miles on it when the grandson got it, and the grandson kept it in storage only putting 500 miles on it. The car has always been garaged, and it was sold to the present seller in 2003 in California. The car only has presently 44,490 original miles on it. It even has two mirrors on it placed on the front fenders exactly where the mirrors were installed by the dealer on my dad's car. The gold in the "V" emblem in the front grille has not faded. The Canadian heritage certainly gives "Copper Top" an international flavor. "Copper Top" will soon be making a trip in an enclosed professional hauler's trailer from Santa Ana, California, to Texarkana, Texas-Arkansas. When she comes down our State Line Avenue in Texarkana (separating Texas from Arkansas), it will rival Cleopatra's triumphant arrival in Rome. I intend to have a brass band preceeding her, and both mayors (one for Texarkana, Arkansas, and one for Texarkana, Texas) issuing proclamations naming the day as "Copper Top" day in honor of a 59 Buick coming to live again in the twin cities! I must tell you that buying this car on ebay was quite an experience. I was the 22nd bidder and 4 hours out the price was $13,500. I made one bid high enough to still be in my budget and then hang on for dear life. Within the last 10 minutes of the auction, 6 bids from other bidders were made each being progressively higher until the bid reached $19,101 and time finally ran out. When the smoke cleared I still had the highest bid by a hair. The seller told me that before the auction ended he had been contacted by bidders in Sweden, Norway, France, and Denmark-the seller really thought the car was going to Europe. I credit this club and this site for the worldwide high regard now for the 59 Buick. Was it just luck in my case? No -I think it was fate. My beloved 87 year old dad has been battling prostate cancer for 18 years. When my mother died last March after 65 years of marriage to my dad, my dad's will to keep fighting the cancer was not there anymore suddenly. I am convinced that along with MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas, and the therapy that "Copper Top" will provide, his will to fight the cancer will return. Can a 59 Buick accomplish that? When my dad gets behind the wheel of "Copper Top" and has those Delta Wings behind him again-you betcha!!!! Charles D. Barnette"
