Prior to the Cash for Clunkers deal, the dealer didn't want to give you anything for a trade-in. Thats was why people were donating cars to charities, rich folks were selling or giving their older cars to maids, gardners - pool boys. 'Cause the figured it was worth it for the Goodwill or tax deduction. Much better than the dealer giving you $2,000, $3000 on a car you paid top dollar for 5 or 10 years ago.
Same with the cash for clunkers program, if the dealers really wanted to get some good used cars all they had to do was Match the cash for clunkers pay out - I'm pretty sure many folks were not happy to see the Family Truckster being junked.
Now the dealers have their money - and still want to blame the program, Which got people in the door and cars off the Floor, for them now jacking up the price on used cars? Someone saves your bacaon - seems to me you ought to be grateful?
Typical Dealer B.S. Trust them if you want, but keep your hands in your pockets. No telling what else they will go after.
