This is a LiveMeeting recorded webcast made to advise those who are providing stress-counseling for the Katrina evacuees in Texas. Many of the points are applicable to anyone wanting to help individuals surviving the current (or, for that matter, any) catastrophe.

The presentation, Crisis Intervention and Compassion Fatigue, is conducted by an Employee Assistance Program counselor with skills in providing stress-counseling to meet a variety of duress-related needs, including those surviving natural disasters. It is 18 minutes long. There is no charge for accessing or using this presentation.

Steps to access the webcast recording:

      1. Click this link or copy/paste it to your ‘net browser.

      2. In the first View Recording screen, type your name in the ‘Your Name’ field. Click the View Recording button. (No Recording Key is required.)

      3. In the second View Recording screen, type your e-mail address and ‘company name’ (i.e., affiliation) in the appropriate fields. These are for routine record-keeping purposes to track the number of ‘hits’ on the recording. Click the View Recording button.

      4. In the View Recording Info screen click the icon next to Microsoft Office Live Meeting Replay. This launches WindowsMediaPlayer to run the recording using streaming audio/video.

If you have trouble running the recording through WindowsMediaPlayer, try downloading a version of this free software compatible with your operating system by connecting to

We hope you find this helpful for service provider organizations serving hurricane survivors with disabilities. We found the section about what not to say to the survivors insightful.

      Sincerely,

      Phil and Marsha Coleman
      [with ADAPT of Texas]
