I would be happy to volunteer my time to helping assure that there are accessible emergency shelters and other facilities needed by persons with disabilities that have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.

I retired last year from the position I created for the City of San Francisco, the Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office on Disability.

Prior to holding that position (which I was in for approximately five years), I was the ADA/Disability Access Coordinator/ADA Coordinator for the San Francisco Department of Public Works and was on the emergency call-back team for the City. I am an expert in access codes and regulations and would be willing to help wherever I can.

I am an experinced interpreter for people with deaf/blindness and who are deaf and am a special education advocate for families who have children with disabilties. I could volenteer some time as a SSP for a person with deaf/blindness and help families negotiate school systems to ensure specialized services are obtained for thier children.
