In addition to the offer of services in Winona, MN, I would be happy to take time from my work to help with coordinating services for persons with developmental disabilities. I have 25 years of experience working in residential and support services for this population as human services executive director. I am responsible for serving more than 200 people with disabilities within our non-profit corporation serving Winona Co. I also have played an advocacy role by serving as immediate past president of Arc Minnesota.
If I can help I can be contacted by calling (507) 452-1021.
Denny Theede
Hello Folks,
Thank you for serving as a clearing house to help individuals with disabilities and their families affected by Katrina.
Home and Community Options, Inc., Winona, MN has received State of Minnesota Licensing authority and endorsement from Arc Minnesota to offer assistance to people with developmental disabilities who may need temporary 24 hour care assistance as a result of their displacement from Katrina.
We have five residential sites that are appropriately licensed to provide 24 hour care with round the clock staffing. Person would have their own private bedroom. Staffing support is fully trained, but some additional volunteer support may be used to augment staffing.
We will do this with no expectation of reimbursement.
The sites can be described as follows:
745 Hwy 14, Winona, MN: 4 elderly ladies who are ambulatory with assistance. License # 810231-2-AFC Persons very social and adaptable Variance for Five: Persons somewhat fragile to others Home is mostly accessible and could accommodate wheelchair Basement or ground level bedroom available for fifth person

250 Sebo St. 4 ladies of middle age License # 232851-2-AFC High social and some community indep. Variance for Five Home partially accessible Main floor or basement bedroom available
3925 W Fourth Goodview, MN 3 men home of middle age to eldely Licensed for Four Men are very indep in community. Home has minimal accessibility features. Main floor bedroom available.
We would consider offering transportation to pick up folks and bring them to Minnesota if we can get local support for such. We would send staff to meet with family or caretakers to receive orientation and insure appropriate matches. The provision of support can be for months necessary to reestablishe service in their home communities. We reserve the right to insure compatibility with current people who reside in these home settings.

I have worked for the past 15 years in the area of ADA Compliance, technical assistance and training. I have extensive experience in site surveys and fair housing requirements. I am the president of the Fair Housing Center of the Gulf Coast. I am currently located in San Antonio. Once the immediate crisis is over, I hope we can work toward full compliance in all new construction and full compliance with federal law. If there are immediate needs for access, I am often able to identify inexpensive ways to modify older structures for access. I have lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast since I was 10 years old and love it. We made it through Camille and will recover through this.....Christine

There is a website set up to match housing needs with offers of housing. The site is www.theopenhouseproject.org, and it identifies housing for people with disabilities.

I am with the Florida Lions Camp in Lake Wales, FL. FLC is a non-profit camp dedicated to serving those with special needs through recreational programs and respite care. We also host inclusive youth camp sessions focusing on mainstreaming all children, benefiting all populations. We were also hard hit by 3 hurricanes last fall, but were able to rebuild due to the support of our Lions, community, local humanitarian grantors and others throughout the US and even overseas. We have yet to collect the majority of insurance moneys due us. This puts us in the unique position of understanding the frustration and devastation caused by a hurricane and the ability to serve those victims that are children or of any age suffering multiple disabilities. We would love to help by opening our camp and tapping into whatever resources we have available to those victims. At this time we have trained staff and volunteers willing to help in this effort. We do have nurses on staff and a couple of local doctors who are willing to lend their hands to FLC. Our facility is air-conditioned and equipped to easily handle at least 75 or more people and still house our staff and volunteers. We have CPR and First Aid trained staff and lifeguards. We are an American Camp Association accredited program and facility and have worked with the Florida Division of Blind Services and other social service agencies for many years. We are owned and supported by the Lions of Multiple District 35 which includes Florida and the Grand Bahamas. Because it will be important not only to house these victims, but also restore some quality of life to them as they await more permanent solutions, we feel camp would be an idea setting to provide them leisure and learning opportunities. We are asking for help in locating the appropriate contact to carry through with this offer. If you can provide a contact, please call or email Barbara Cage at (863)696-1948 ext. 11 during business hours or at ext. 72 after hours; or (863)696-7321 or (863)632-4384; or email at bjcage@hotmail.com. You may also try Carissa Moen at (863)696-1948 ext. 12 or 35, or (863)696-2117 or email her at assiracneom@hotmail.com. We are hoping to get this underway ASAP to alleviate delay in getting help to those so desperately in need and to allow us to make the necessary arrangements here at camp. Thank you for any help you can provide in putting us in touch with the appropriate contact.
I have a very small house and a 3 year old but would be happy to offer shelter for children/adults with MR. I have over 20 years experience in the ICF/MR field. Or I would be happy to visit and offer support to any hurricane victims in the North Austin/Pflugerville/Round Rock area.

I have a home that was built for disabled people because I am in a wheelchair. I have room for 6, maybe 8 wheelchairs and everything is accessible including the shower and the kitchen sink. Also available is a wheelchair accessible van for transportation. They must like animals because we have one dog, several birds and cats.
I own and operate a respite care facility called "Community Integrations" in Centre County PA. I have one room available with a twin bed and one room available with a king size bed. Both rooms have access to a bathroom and the room with the twin bed is ADA compliant...40" doors and support bars in the restroom. I am very familiar with the local government assistance offices having been employed by them in the past and maintained a working relationship I can make referrals, help fill out forms, and aide in transportation to the various offices. Please contact me with any ideas of help that are needed. I am open to all sugestions. dennist@hco.org
