I have taught special education in both Virginia and California and currently manage participant adult services at a non profit for children/adults with developmental disabilities in the san francisco bay area. I am available to volunteer in a number of ways:
- going for a long weekend (Fri-Mon) to shelters to help with children with autism/other developmental disabilities if airfare is provided
- working with families relocated to the san francisco/san jose areas of california in finding services for people with disabilities
- working with local schools to develop IEPS for relocated children with disabilities
- helping with respite care for families recently relocated to the san francisco/san jose bay area
I have a son with autism, epilepsy, and oral apraxia and also work as an ABA (applied behavioral analysis) implementor. I teach kids with disabilities in a 1-on-1 teaching environment using a variety of teaching tools. I am volunteering my time and skills for anyone in the Kansas City metropolitan area. I will teach a few hours a week or offer respite care as needed at no charge. I also have experience working with kids with downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, and a variety of disabilities. I am familiar with feeding tubes as well.
I am going to Biloxi Mississippi September 27 for a week, I would like to volunteer with special needs children affected by the hurricane. I have worked in the school system in Northern Virginia in the special education field with children with MR and autism and behavioral issues. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? I live in the Tidewater area of Virginia. I have many years expereince assisting individuals with many types of challenges. I currently work as a Supervisor in Parks and Recreation, but I am a Certified Recreation Therapist by trade. I am more than willing to help any individual who may have relocated to the Richmond - Williamsburg - Tidewater area in any way I can.
