In my office we field alot of calls and the conversation starts along the lines , "Hi ____ Dept.." and still we get asked ..."Is this ___ dept ?" even after clearly stated.
Even after 7 years and counting...the silliness still manages to surprise me.
I dont give out the number, but that hasn't stopped the
telemarketers from calling.
So I answer the phone "Pasco county morgue...",
and they ask anyway is this <name of real company>?
I say no, this is the pasco county morgue, Can I help you?
They usually wake up from the telemarker trance and
say Sorry...
If they ever get smart and ask to speak <boss name>,
I plan to say he's here but he cant come to the phone.
At that point I should ask if they are next of kin.
It hasnt happen yet. But I am prepared to go there.
Sick isnt it.
I dont blame the telemarketers for doing there job, but
they really should pay attention to the world around em.
It seems like people are so freaked out to actually talk to
a human, its like the first 3 seconds of the conversation don't count.
I worked for a company that delivered food called "waiter on the way".
You could pick from several different eateries, call in your order, and it would be delivered to your home.
I used to answer the phone, "Darth Vader on the way".
No one, except the fellow operators ever noticed.
Try it some time. You can say damn near anything in those first 3 seconds, as long as it rhymes with
something logical.
